Hopefully knowing I'm going to post stuff online for everyone to see will motivate me to improve. Maybe now I'll actually try to finish some things, rather than deciding in the first 15 seconds that I already hate the drawing and give up. Please offer any advice you may have if you see me making the same mistakes over and over again! Thanks!

I have no idea how to digital color/paint, so these are just sketchbook pages I scanned in to mess around with in the hopes of learning something.

And now that that's done...it's pracitce, practice, practice for me!

Nice sketch book. ^^ So far I really have nothing to crit. You have a nice comic style there.

I really dig the colored ones. I sure hope hes playing halo.:P
Keep going with digital ones and also don't be afraid to experiement. Quite interesting what turns up unexpectedly.

Thanks Iiori! Yeah, my style is pretty cartoony right now. That's because I spent virtually my entire life drawing cartoons and it wasn't until I joined this site a few months ago that I really made an effort to learn to draw the "right" way. I'm having a hard time losing the cartoon look, and the fact that I often (as my last post illustrates) make no effort for realism at all doesn't help. Eventually I'd like to find a middleground, which is why I am inspired by people like Isric and Rubygenesis as I think they've found that perfect balance.

I've been terrible in updating because of no scanner (that sucks) but here's a few more things for now...

Trying to design a new avatar. I thought this was "ok" until I put it into photoshop and flipped it. Now I hate it. Oh well....

These are designs for a class assignment. We had to construct a mask out of whatever we could find (styrofoam, egg cartons, buckets, etc.) I wasn't going to include them here, but then I decided they probably do technically fit the category of "concept art."

Just biding my time with photo reference until I start my life drawing class in January and can learn to start drawing people more accurately.

what up pencil??

took a lil looking to find your stuff, but here it is.

yeah id say if you're going for a hybrid realistic/cartoony/illustrative style, i'd definatly look at people like jim lee (which from what i can tell, you are doing.)
but i'd also realy delve into some of the masters and do LOTS of studies and the like, to really get into that kind of naturalistic drawings, because its clear that you know how to exaggerate and "caricature-ize" people, now its just a matter of pinning the naturalistic side of it down so that you can have that beautiful blend of both worlds...

Thanks for the reply siskol p.

It's probably not a good sign you had to go digging to find any of my work. I get torn between the "post more comments" or "post more art" mentality. I've seen people tell users that if they comment on others work often, they will be more likely to have their own work commented on in return. But at the same time I don't want to get the reputation as a loudmouth who always posts comments but never work. I need to throw more stuff in this thread because lord knows I have the sketch pages.

While I'd ultimately love to have a hybrid cartoony/realism style, you are definitely right in that I have to work more on the realism part. Right now I have some serious issues with pretty basic stuff that I'm having trouble shaking.

Thanks a lot for replying dude. Good advice, and I like what you do, so I'm flattered you took the time and effort to track me down.:D
