View Full Version : Lollipop girl poster for GTA 4 (extra fingers)

There seems to be a problem with a number of fingers on her right hand. This image appears everywhere, on game cover, special edition boxes, subways, buildings, xbox 360 theme, etc. I wonder how could this slip through unnoticed. I've seen the artist's other work, it's impressive. Is this sort of thing acceptable considering the exposure this game gets?

I borrowed the image from here (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=301889)

There was also the great watermark debacle of Okami (http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/search?q=okami). You'd be surprised what can happen in a time crunch.

Usually doctors just amputate the extra finger to make it appear normal.

Norman Rockwell painted a guy with three legs on a Saturday Evening Post cover.
Jack Kirby did a Fantastic Four splash page where Mister Fantastic has a hand at the end of his stretched out leg.
And then, of course, there's this (http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/2008/03/castles-in-air.html).

I dunno what's funnier, the fact that she has 3 arms, or that it took me about 2 minutes to work out what was wrong, even though it was circled in red.
Hahahaha.

Not to say much about the extra finger, but...that's seriously the cover? It looks like someone's quick sketch with poor anatomy (AND they had a model??).
I often see the "reversed hand" in comics. Always fun.

WOW!
GTA: San Andreas cover, again - six fingers (by the same artist):

I found an interesting quote:
"Well, it is a pretty common advertising tactic to screw with images in subtle ways like adding an extra finger on someone or an arm in a group, or "subliminal messages" hidden in pictures. Something to the effect of the person not really acknowledging the mistake, but something in their brain picks it up and causes the image to linger in the back of their mind."
Is this true? Has anyone been requested to insert a hidden message like this?

what would the hidden message of having 5 fingers and thumb be....
I guess with 5 fingers though you could have a true middle finger

If there's a hidden message here I am pretty sure it has to do with her tongue and the lollipop. Now I am going to go back and count her tongues.
(Edit: Oh! Interesting, but no comment and don't quote me.)

Ah, I see. I was worried it might be SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY KNEW WHAT THE HELL THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT. Silly me.

The artist has an extra-finger fetish?

Its true that looking at the other pieces from that same artist, this kinda mistake is surprising and it makes it hard to blame it all on mere inattention (mushrooms u think?) but come on who, with a little bit of self-esteem would accept making such a silly mistake on behalf of some sucky ad' tactic?!
Elwell that last link is hardly believable...
Oh btw how come ArneSReismueller was banned?
The hardly noticeable little link below his post doesnt seem to help me understand it as fully as id like.
Im abit of a gossip i know...

Traditionally, Amish quilters (and some other groups) will put a single deliberate mistake into a quilt - and these are those very complicated, very painstakingly constructed geometric quilts - because only God can make something perfect.
Or it was done as a superstitious thing. Or to have a story a tell when selling the quilt.

I don't even care that there are more fingers than necessary. I care that this "artist" had a perfectly good reference photo and entirely failed at creating anything but a mooshy, amateur piece of crap that someone actually paid for. ZOMG LEARN TO DRAW!!

No, no, the picture on the right is the girl from IGN.com just posing after the game poster, she's not the model for artwork, sorry I didn't make it clear:

Another thing that bothers me is the twisted phone perspective, the bottom doesn't match the top part. I don't wanna sound picky, but this is too obvious (or maybe the bottom is rounded like Razor):

Possibly some sort of 5 finger discount? Rockstar cuts corners by using artwork with imperfect anatomy? Awesome!

Ouch. Did I touch a nerve, cotron? I guess you're right. My hate does outweigh my ability to kiss the ass of someone I've never met.
In all seriousness, I will always admit my art needs improvement. But, even I can count to 5, and if this guy makes a living off of this art, well, he needs improvement too. And not just in math. In art. Even us spiteful, talentless people can see that.
Also, now that I've learned that's not his reference photo, he should have used one.

When it comes to crunch time, I think these sorta things can be a possibility. You dont know exactly how much work this guy had to put out in a certain space of time, he could have been working his tits off the whole day before he actually got asked to do this painting. Were human, mistakes can be made, especially when you lack sleep and are over worked.
