Hi Everyone,

It's been a while. Finally I got time to work on something new. It's inspired by the "Roadside Picnic" book, the concept of Zone and Stalkers. I'm also a fan of the S.t.a.l.k.e.r game so there is a link too :) I wanted to make it a bit more illustration then I usually do. I'm curious about your opinions ;)

What medium is this? I can hardly tell your real media from your digital, if any of them are digital. The paintings in your portfolio are great, especially that first one.

This one feels a little bit cut off, compositionally speaking. I could be completely wrong, but it seems like a bit more sky to silhouette the traincar/trees against might let everything breathe a bit.

Any way, good work :P

Agreed the portfolio is impressive, yet having seen them this image lacks the same passion. I think it might be the defined use of colours and light source in the other images, whereas this one feels more jagged. What medium is it btw? to reinforce sourgasms ponderings :)

Hey, one of my favourite films! Good to see some work based on this. The claustrophobia thing in this is well realised without too much resort to the imagery of the film. I like it. Especially the way that the space is seen with a sense of volume rather than being just 'background'.

Yeah, I love the book/film/game too.
I think you caught the atmosphere in a very nice way!

thanks for opinions!
Honestly, I did have a problem with composition on this one. I went through a few different layouts and thought that this was the best one. The image could have lost something because of the fact that I started it 2 months ago and only recently picked it up again and not always you have the same or better feel after a long time break.
As for technique - most of my work is digital. This pic is Painter mostly but I start with acrylics underpainting, scan it and work on top. This gives me some extra texture quality from the beginning. I believe acrylics parts can still be seen but it's better visible in highres resolution (like 4k). There are also some pieces of my BW tree drawings comped in in Photoshop.

thanks guys!
well, i kept stalker quite dark as I like to do images that are simple at first sight. i thought that emphasizing stalker would complicate things visually and make it more of a story where you can count things in the image. my goal was rather to get a mood across first and then if you're still interested you can focus on elements and details. so - i'll stand by my choice in that case ;) thanks again.

I agree with your staging choices pazur. I really like the placement of the traincar, its unsettling as it should be. Wonderful use of Painter, you could've said this was traditional and I would have believed you.

this has a really nice illustration feel to it -- nice rendering and style; good use of Painter (and achieving a traditional 'look'); i like the composition of the traincar

thanks for sharing!

thanks for feedback!
as mentioned before this painting is not 100% painter, there are still some parts from acrylics underpainting visible. parts that are covered helped getting better painter's brush mixing, more variety of colors and details.

Thujon: yes, i'm from Poland and I know Beksinski. I was huge fan of his some years ago. I do not really think of his work when I paint now but it still sticks with me apparently. I always felt the world in his paintings as something very close to me. Wszystkiego dobrego ;)
