Nice one goudaboy, very wicked looking, is it made with painter?
One thread question: Does the dryad HAVE to be female?

Ofcourse, that's what dryads are all about, no? But everywhere is said that dryads are female, could they also be male?

Tried to keep it simple, and limit the tools i used, to improve speed. I was also going monochrome, but got tempted to use colour. 2 hours or something.

Why not?
In a fantasy novel i once read (One of the discworld books. By Terry pratchet.), there where both kind. The female ones seemed to be the ones in charge.
Anyway, it depends if you want to be true to greek mythology or not.

Its finally back up! I found a definition of dryad in one place where it said that it was a wood nymph bound to the life of a tree. I thought it would be cool if she was literally bound to the tree. Upon reaching around 50-60 years of age a dryad tree would began to produce a unique fruit that would attract the dryad, when they came in to eat the fruit the tree would ensnare them and hold them captive. Slowly a hollow would form in the tree trunk and slowly engulf the dryad over a period of years. The dryad would then be prisoner to the tree which would benefit from its magic and flesh.

Deadsprite- I had an idea for a more melded look, but I thought that this piece would be closer to the date of capture, a melding would take years longer down the road.
Attackcat- The fruit (based on my knowledge of most women) would probably be a 2kt princess cut tiffany diamond.

Wow! I really like these. :)
Here's what I did:
http://www.velondra.com/images/gallery/231dryad.jpg
Pencil, conte, ink and some color into the lines in PS.
I got a little distracted from the theme of dryad and she is more of a mother nature, holding the spirit of life. Although I could also say she's the holding the essence of a tree.

Cool, the site is back!
Here goes. The idea I imagined as an animation, so figure I better add an explation just in case. Dryads in the animation are pictured not as really physical creatures, but as sort of parallel dimension things, seen only by few people as a kind of shimmering play of light and shadows.

(In case the post below was aimed at me... I was going for an old grandmotherly type dryad. The tree was meant to be getting on in years, maybe even close to death. I suppose her sagging breasts could be confused with old-man boobs.)
