the last 2 are from http://www.midwesttraininggroup.com/tips.htm
addtionally you could also simply hold somthing similar shape and draw your own hand - use a mirror too.
hope Ive been some help.
good luck

what i found especially helpful when drawing hands holding pistols or revolvers is:
when someone is holding a gun ready to fire, make sure, there is a straight line to the main body mass and a firm stand. someone standing stiff straight having the gun holding arm bent 90° won't look like he is dangerous.
on the other hand, someone standing feet far apart, holding the pistol on head level with a straight (or even overbent) arm will look like he is ready to catch the gun's kick.
if he isn't ready to fire, like in your piece, i would try to give the gun/hand compound a bit of a "pointing-index-finger"-gesture. it'll look kinda confident in the way how to handle his gun, like it is a part of himself.
the pointing finger gesture also works fine for someone rushing like breaking into a room, quickly scanning for possible enemies.

I've got an old make-up mirror (the kind that stands up and has a rotating regular/magnifying mirror) that I scored at a yard sale. I use it to draw my left hand doing, well, anything. I keep a variety of props handy- a dowel, a bowl, a coffee cup and various plastic guns. Just draw on the reverse side of your sketch and trace through for the other hand.....
