View Full Version : Brushes not working in Painter X?

It seems like a lot of the brushes don't work in my version of Painter. I click on them and go to draw, but nothing happens. What's even weirder is that sometimes a few of them work, but when I go to use one that doesn't, everything else stops working.

EDIT: It also seems like they only work on the first default layer ('canvas', when you open the program) and no other.

Two things that might help:

Bug workaround - At the top of the Layers palette, click the Preserve Transparency box until a check mark appears. Then click once more to remove the check mark and disable Preserve Transparency.

Brush variant Method - Make sure the brush variant is one that will work on transparent areas of a Layer. Go to the Brush Controls' General palette and if the Method is Plug-in, the brush variant will only work on existing color so you'll know it won't work on a new Layer until color is added to the Layer and then only where the color is added.

The Painter Canvas isn't a Layer and whatever color the Canvas is, even the default white present when the new Canvas is opened, a brush variant that uses Method: Plug-in will work on that color just as it would on other color you might add to the Canvas. You just won't see any effect until you have more than one color for the brush variant to affect.

If neither of the above solves the problem, read my Sticky thread at the top of this forum, the part about posting to The PainterFactory, then post your message there in the Got a Question? forum.

Is it possible you somehow switched your new layers to come up in the incorrect blending mode and so the art just isn't showing against the canvas?
