Hi all,
I love your forum!
The tutorial with the practice apples is PHENOM!

Here's my problem and maybe you can point me in the right direction - maybe it's right here and I'm missing it.

I am trying to learn to blend skin tones....I have some line sketches and I've had a couple of people try to teach me online through written tutorials - but I'm missing something.

Can anyone tell me where they found the best help for coloring things like hair and skin tone?

Mine looks AWFUL and I feel like I'm best put with apples and oranges. LOL

If you can help me I would be most appreciative!

Peace,

Claudia

there's a whole load of goodness here:

A lot of it is just practice, and study from life too, tutes are good, but sometimes just learning from life (or photos to I guess) can't be beat;)

Thank you so much!
I so appreciate you taking the time to reply....
I totally agree with you - life and practice give you the best results for sure!

But how to make my mind "see" right....so I draw it???

Any suggestions for a newbie like me?

well I have issues with colour....one of my big flaws, but I'd say study what other people do, I've picked up things from other artists I love...also learn the basics of colour theory (compliments, values, etc etc)...either get a book on it of just look for colour theory tutes...there are plenty about. Most importantly just practice loads, reading this stuff helps, but if your not putting it into practice then its all going to be words going in one ear and out the other-after many, many bad mistakes, and frustrating attempts, things will slowly fall into place. Good luck:)

Yeh double what Daveneale says - practice makes perfect. Practice practice practice. Oh and start a sketchbook thread here on conceptart.org as well as post some of your stuff and get it critiqued. Feedback can do wonders.
