Need some brains ...

I'm doing a project for my Character Design/Storyboard class and I'm stuck.
We have to do a Victorian female Psychic Detective. I have the female Victorian down, I just need to figure out how in the world I'm going to make it obvious she's a psychic AND that she's a detective. I'm probably dumb as a rock, but what did detectives look like back then o_0??

oh yeah, she's supposed to have a sidekick, ...I was figuring I could just give her a staffordshire pitbull dressed up in a handmade duck suit...or, just a staffy terrier *sighs*

Its a female Sherlock Holmes, is it not?
Give her some upper-class english garments, maybe riding pants and boots, a magnifying-glas and a sturdy english pistol of the break-open type.
Psychic`Well I guess U can hace some weird special effects like she sees something like in a "think-bubble" or "think-cloud" or something. Or she may have a magick-glass-bubble to look in. Or the simple way, she looks mysterious and have one finger to her temple... :D
Don´t forget to pit her against some dark twisted chutulians! ;)
