Question on charging

I've been making illustrations for a year and I'm still wondering on how I must charge for each work. I'd like to have some tips on that. Do you charge per hours?
I've been started to note how many hours I spent on each illustrations. So next time I will be able to know how much money should I ask.

Hourly charges are sometimes good but I also take into account the ammount of artistic license you get. (the ammount of "do whatever comes to your mind space"), bigger discounts on my part for that type of stuff. Also take into account materials and size (big factor)...
