When I graduate, I'd of course like to get a job in video games right away, but I'm not too sure of any video game companies in the east Texas area.

Do any of you guys know any video game companies in this area? Forgive me if this isn't the right forum; I don't get on here too frequently and haven't really learned all the ropse yet.

Well, Black Box studios is here in Plano. Also I think Activision/Blizzard is down in San Antonio.

Why are you limiting yourself to just Texas... and for that matter just east Texas?

You may want to get a job right out of college, but think about some other options too, maybe do some freelance illustration while you practice your techniques and better them even further. You're not going to be the best you can be right out of college, and if your even better than that you are more likely to be hired to the company of your desiring.

There's a company that did a great kids game called "Bugdom." I think that they are in Texas. Can't recall the name of the company, but you could Google it.

I'd take Homeless Foxman's advice. But if you see an opportunity that you think you have a good shot at, by all means go for it. But don't just try to get into video games right away. It's a very tough industry to get into, and you'd be best making indie game mods / your own small games first just to get some 'folio stuff that says you're self motivated too (what's more, more experience and such while working in another job to pay the bills, be it artistic or otherwise).

If you're motivated enough then there's no reason why you can't get into it if you give it your all (with a little bit of luck), but it might not be the best idea to do it straight out of college. :)
