Hello!

I was looking for a thread like this one but I couldn't find it, the thing is the following: what do you do to avoid back/neck pain?

I've been drawing and painting since I was like... born, now I'm 21 and lately my back hurts after 20-30 minutes painting MINIATURE FIGURES (like warhammer) and it didn't use to hurt, but now it does.

I've been looking for "ergonomic rules" about desks and chairs and various distances, but my desk seems to be ok, do you have any tips for desk-drawers?

Anyone here has, or does, make jewelry or something that requires you to duck horribly?

thanks!!!

where is it? Shoulders and neck?

I get pains in my lower back after too long at my easel, and my neck after too long at my computer. I think it's mostly from bad posture, which I'm trying to correct. Also, during breaks I go hang from my chin up bar and it helps pop my joints and stretch my muscles. I recommend everyone try it, and if you don't have a bar to hang from, try putting your hands on the top of a door frame and leaning in to get the stretch on your shoulders.

Stretch regularly, change your posture from time to time - even good posture will start to hurt if you keep it for too long.

Do some exercises that will stretch and put the arms and shoulders through a wide range of motions, e.g. push ups.

You need to use something that allows you to work in a normal posture, so you dont need to duck. I also used to paint on a normal table and my back started to hurt in a few minutes (i needed to duck), but after i started to paint in one of this things http://www.rygo.com.ar/images/product_images/atril24587.jpg i could work more hours without too much problem.

If you have to duck to work, try using a mini-stand or mini-table to put the pieces on eye-level, close to your face, i dont know if such thing exist, but it would not be so hard to make one yourself.

or alternately you could lower your chair or kneel on a cushion.
