Almost forgot about the trees. Threw those in kind of last minute.
I should start timing myself. I do these at work (while trying to also get work done). On and off for a couple of hours.

Hey ernie,
It has nice mood, like from some Spielberg's sci-fi! But...
Your persons have shadows, which suggest very close, low, small and strong lightsource, but it's the sun behind mountains! Imho maybe the robots could have some sort of shadow too, not to make them feel discriminated :-)

lifesmre: this office monitor is very bad, but I think, the robot should be more visible. I think a not so bright moon would be better, now it's too distracting. we look to the right and there is nothing, nor in the center, only in the left area...
but I like the basic idea and especially the figure (his left arm and hand is too big, though, I think...).
sorry that me, a beginner told so much, but I really think I am right, at least partionally and hope you aren't too sensitive...
Cookiedemon: it's good to look at :) it's a sketch and yet, it seems to be more realistic, I can clearly see the snowy mountain in the lights of the sunset... ugh, it's hard to explain :( my fav so far.

Thanks. I thought it looked a little funky, I just couldn't put my finger on it.
Updated pic here with some darker background colors and more shadow goodness.

Jonish-Like the b/w. Feels quick, looks nice.
Cookiedemon-Snow covered outpost at sunrise/set, very cool.
gearhart-Very nice fore/middle/background, great depth. Eerrie
lifesmre-Like the way sky fades darker away from the moon.
juan_cadillac-Nice painterly look, those brush strokes really read like trees to me.
Takeda11-Nice layout, like the light source coming from the left.
SMG-Invasion approaching, another example of a nice sense of depth
Jaimè-Like the creepy colored sky.

remmy,
If you say you fail, then you fail. Otherwise, the trees all seem to be the same scale, and should probably get much smaller as they reach the top of the hill, the light coming out the door is all wrong too. Nice mood and colours though.
Hamsta, I love your signature pieces, but this is my favourite 'Hamsta' yet.

ExiledRed Are you saying this isn't a "signature piece"? (it's the but throwing me off)
I think your pic is a little too much on the dark side, might be my screen, but no 2 screens are ever alike anyways.
It makes things a little hard to read in the middle, and unfortunately that's exactly where my eye is drawn - it's where the robot seems to be going, and the men running away from.
I can't read the robots very well, aside from the one on the left with the spiky wheels.
I like the oranges and reds, makes it ominous.

I dont know why people worry about other peoples buts so much,
I meant that I usually really like your work, and the way I can pick it out without seeing your username or avatar. I feel this particular piece is awesome, and I thought it worth mentioning :)
thanks for the crit :)
My piece is dark so you cant see how crap the lines underneath really are, the characters running are not convincing and appear elongated, I had to crop out a fourth character on the right and the legs of the bottom guy.
I think Ive conveyed the chaos and panic I was searching for though.

what's up with the tail and baboon arse? :)

hahah thanx
lol it was a decision of the moment.
i wanted to put an observer or something down there, but putting humans would be boring, so i went planet of the apes, in keeping with the burnt forest theme and the almighty axe.

you're right... i guess i didn't put enough thought into the way the shadow falls, nor the position of the monkey. Thanks! =)

armetage - That is a great image. I really like the composition of it.
The7Artist7 - Your image totally caught me off guard. This is excellent! I really like how your image came out.
Arteater - I really like the feel of your image. Good contrast.
My image is a homage to Shogun Warriors. This is Raideen. 45min to 1 hour sketch on tablet in Photoshop.

My attempt, I been trying new things outside of what I've done before since I'm coming back from a long break from painting digitally, which I've tried a couple matte textures, I don't like it really though, between looking bad when I do it and feels like cheating.
first time participating, good warmup
