Hey all! This is an idea I started last June as a sketch, but now I'm making a second one on the computer. Again, it's mainly practice (though I suppose every piece of art is practice in some way). I would take an art class, but sadly I'm just too young. :(

It's still an early version, and I didn't want to go any further without getting some advice. One thing I'm really concerned about is how to properly outline a sketch like this with the wacom without making the lines incredibly thick. If you've seen my mage pics in the Finished forum, you'll know what I mean.
Once I get something of a solid outline down, I'll move on to better coloring. For now, I just added color so I wouldn't be confused later on.
And I'll be adding a background soon, maybe, like trees and such.
Oh, and here's the sketch from June:

Here's an update with an actual background and more coloring/outlining.

Looking good so far, especially the eyes are nic. :D
But I want U to make the feets too ;)
Oh, about the lines, I get that feeling too alot, they get to loose or thick or something in photoshop. Thats why I often "ink" it in Macromedia Flash first. :D

thanx for the reply:D
Yes, I've spent the most time on the eyes, obviously. I'll try and put the feet and hands in soon, I just don't like the way they look in the sketch, so I'm making them different. More plant-like, you could say.

This is a great idea. I like it. Can't help with the wacom, but I'm a gardener. How about roots that pull out of the ground when she walks for feet. And leaves for hands. A lot of plants have five leaves on one stem. Like roses. If you played around with it a bit I think you could twist rose leaves to look like fingers on a hand. Check out the plant reference section Adien posted of floweres from my garden. You might find something there you like. All the photos should be printable from this section. If you don't find anything there and you like the suggestion, let my know and I'll do a foray into my garden with the camera to try and find something for you.
Good work, Can't wait to see it finished!

Hey, thanks! I'll definitely check it out, then, and see what I can find. Yeah, I was thinking some sort of roots would work for feet, too.
I probably won't be able to post any updates today--I've got a whole lot of work:(
Thanks again!

Alright, I haven't had much time to work on this lately (still haven't finished the hands/feet, :( but plan on doing that tomorrow).
So, this is what I've got so far...

I'm going to try and make the background a bit clearer through the rain, shouldn't be too hard. Any suggestions/critique for where I am right now?

It's looking good, if you could make the rain look less like fog, more defined, it would help. Also maybe try some small bushes or trees in the background, giving it some perspective. It's looking better all the time. good work.

Ok, I fixed up the rain a bit and added some droplets to her skin (is that what you'd call it, if she's basically a plant?). I also touched up the background and the vines...next come the limbs (at last!)

For all who's checking this out (if anybody, lol) I've got a favor to ask before I finish this up. While working on the legs (still not finished...) I experimented with colors and eventually came up with two versions of the picture. One is with the normal, spring-like coloring and the other is darker, browner in some areas sorta like autumn. I haven't gone too far with the second version in case it doesn't turn out all right, or else I would have altered more, such as making the skin/vines a little darker, but...yeah. Anyway, tell me your opinions, 'cause I really want to get this finished.
Normal version:

Altered Version:

I might integrate both of them if things turn out that way, but don't want to do anything drastic yet...
so, which do you prefer?

I like the spring like one better, the first one. Everything seems to stand out more.
