Steven Assael gets several hundred thousand dollars a portrait now.

Are most schools so entrenched in making lowbrow art that they don't really teach this?

I'll be attending a Steven Assael demo this weekend. I'm wondering how infrequently you'll encounter people of this ability?.......and if it's because it's not taught?

Well considering that Steve's been teaching for over twenty years, and has regular gigs at two schools (SVA and the NY Academy), and has had hundreds of successful students, it's hardly not being taught.

So I'm wondering if different areas battle different philosophies of art?

I live in San Diego county. Hardly an art mecca....compared to Los Angeles or New York.

I've been a fan of his artworks ever since an artist I talk to on deviantart showed me his works, really great pieces.

He is not getting that kind of money for a simple portrait. The large paintings he does like the one with the wedding dress are well into six figures...but smaller ones are still affordable, to my knowledge.

Steven Assael will be demoing on Saturday at 7pm.
The Demo is not listed on the LAAFA website. You have to call them to schedule.

I'm starting to wonder if LAAFA would provide a better education then ACCD after viewing instructors like the Clayton Brothers:
