View Full Version : DSG 1360: Creature: UNIPED CYCLOPS

.

[ Should be a fun one... ]

[ "uniped" = single leg/foot ]

[ A "cyclops" is a member of a primordial race of giants, each with a single eye in the middle of its forehead (per wiki). ]

[ Sugg. by ExiledRed ]

Creature: UNIPED CYCLOPS

about 30 minutes using a mech pencil.

i failed two good concepts, and yet i liked this one even though it could have better shading, and a little finer lines.

iambanana already beat me to it with the hind leg, but since I already started sketching mine, I figure I'd see it through.

couple notes...
iambanana Great style and cool colors.

firestar Easily has the most personality, love it!

I think I should have given mine two long tails for balance or something. I'm not quite convinced it'll stay upright. Also it doesn't have a mouth so I guess it'd serve as a sentry of sorts. Hooded thing is to blink and protect precious single eye.

Tri_beer_gut - I like your concept :D it's not your typical cyclops! Great job :)

here's mine:

err... it's a cross between a cyclops, shrimp and a centipede I guess O__O

If he just has one foot he maybe needs long enough arms to steady himself ^^

My version... the cycle-clops! He got badly injured in an accident, and now moves himself by dragging his body with his arms. He can still move quickly despite his injury.

Leprechaun
May 12th, 2008, 02:26 PM
So I thought to myself, "How could a one-legged animal move around effectively?"

This is my halfway decent solution:

Added a little bit of mechanio-uniped to my cyclops.

I gave up on any sort of background. I might edit it tomorrow and put one in.

Clever twist, armando.

And Leprechaun, I like the direction you took with your entry--- specialized, but still with a good dose of primordial brutality.

Fun!
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j177/jenserai/dsg1360-uniped_cyclops.jpg

Below are some I did taking dictation from a photographer friend (http://themages.com/)
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j177/jenserai/dsg1360-uniped_cyclops2.jpg

iambanana: The flow of your lines really give the little guy a lot of character despite the simple coloring and shading. Very nice.
Neondevil: Interesting take on the subject matter. I'm a bit dubious as to his ability to balance though, hehe
Psychostrat: Nicely executed and oddly creepy
muleskinner: Great movement here. Love the fingers.
Fractalbot: Poor thing! Great concept.
Sazi: Very... strange? I'm guessing htat's what you were going for :)

ack, ISP went down yesterday morning, so I feel like I'm a bit late to my own party.

I did a second because I didnt like my first guy, and it seems that browntear and psychostrat were thinking along the same lines and both came up with much better renderings.

nothing fancy, just a one-legged one-eyed humanoid... the contrast is too low, but I'm not confident with light and shadow yet :(

Great Topic ExiledRed, I just went in the direction that seemed more typical at the time, though after seeing everyones submission now I can see lots of cool concepts and imagination happening, several routes that can be taking.... DSG is a great mind stimulant.:)

I like your big red cyclops, the colors make him seem venomous.

Cheers...

Dramatic foreshortening! I always like that :)
It would be good to somehow suggest movement (swinging from branch to branch) cause right now he looks a little but like floating in the air.
Other than that I like the shading, nice picture!

Maybe I'll finish...I dunno.
