Litle update.
I started draw/paint digitaly. These 2 days I been trying shapes, brushes, diferent methods of painting, most of it on fruit painting.
So heres some examples.

And im kinda upset about mental colour picking, i done these paintings using photo references, so i used a litle colour picking tool from a photo, is that bad?
Later I'll try painting still life, so I'll avoid trying to cheat with colour pick. I'll see what what comes from that.

Please, give me advices, critics or something (especially about mental color picking thing).

:)

Hey Pijus, thanks for stopping by at my sketchbook and thanks for the comment.
Your so called nonsense drawings are really quite good and interesting, I wish I started up a regime at your age, you're doing a fine job man :) good pencil work.

Hey there Piju!
Really nice sketchbook here.
Great to see you practicing and studying anatomy immediately. It's still the best way to learn :)
About the color picking, yea, it's kinda cheating :P
It's still the best to try and find your own colors.
For the fruits, they're done really nice!
I like the first apple better than the second because the blending in the first is done way better than in the second. what makes it look a lot more realistic.
If you're interested, here is some info about blending and coloring in photoshop by Bumskee. It helped me a lot so here it is:

Cheers dude! and keep it up!

Hi there! You're doing great so far with the anatomical sketches. :) With some of your previous imaginary work, I would've liked to see a definite light source in your sketches, instead of a general-looking shading-thing going on.

I suggest on your next studies is to draw the deepest shadows first, before anything else, in a solid black or eqiuvalent shade, and work backwards (from dark to light). This exercise should help you structure your figures (I always advise people to do that! :D ), and give more of a dynamic prescence to your imaginary works. Good luck!

That creature design is pretty darn sweet. Actually I really enjoy your imagination, all the way from the crustacean type thangs up top.
Two suggestions, watch your proportions when doing studies. The full bodies tend to have a squashed look to them. And explore your full range of values, your darkest darks could be a bit darker.
More creatures please...

HOLY MOLY!!! there is some serious potential in here!! how old did you say you are?

the last ones really kick some ass, and your lines went from shy and cautious to selfconfident more lose ones! great improvement!! I like the way you deform your characters, makes them pretty interesting, try to keep studying "normal" anatomy though, cos you first have to know the rules before breaking them :)

your fruits are great too, and yeah colorpicking is kinda cheating, but hey EVERYONE started like this!!! so nevermind, its totally normal!

last advice for your pencilrendering... try to make some hatching practices. I 'm a huge fan of hatching and say that if its done right it can look better than the 'smudgy' way...

a la bapsi, big thanks. Because of my bad english I'm not sure what where u asking, you mean who teach's me anatomy? Well I started from Riven Phoenix videos on youtube, that changed my drawing a lot and now I bought a HUMAN ANATOMY FOR ARTISTS book by Andras Szunyoghy and Dr. Gyorgy Feher and thats it.

greenbears, thank you. I'm a bit stand out guy so some kinda a bit scary or ugly style growing it self in me, I like when people see me drawing creatures or something like that and say ''oh man thats disgusting''.

lilou, well my birhtday was at july, so I'm 16 now and I hate it... Thank you very much. Im studying a bit of arms and legs anatomy right now, ill try to study some more. Thanks for advices, I'm not sure what is that hatching thing, but ill check that out after posting this.

Some random figures and arm muscle studies.I feel like I need to start studying hands and feets cuz I never took it seriously and now its bad for my figures.

Hey Pijus, you're making steady progress here, I'm liking the anatomy studies, don't burn yourselt out on them though, for every study, do something from imagination, it doesn't have to be something that takes 5 hours to sketch and render, just a doodle will help loosen things up.

I hope you're wrong about our SSG. D:

P
August 24th, 2008, 12:37 PM
Tigermilk: super thanks, oh those refs from an very old Lithuanian photography books.

lilou: thank you. Hands looks odd becouse I have not studyed it seriously, but I'm working out with it in traditional media so I'll not upload those studies. I use HUMAN ANATOMY FOR ARTISTS book by Andras Szunyoghy and Dr. Gyorgy Feher (http://www.amazon.com/Human-Anatomy-Dr-Gyorgy-Feher/dp/3829005733).

Smoke: thank you, I'll try to take your advice, thanks for it. I hope so too. :)

Today I tryed to draw a mirror, but some fool apeared in it, so I had to draw him too.
Well looks nothing like me, I dont know if I should upload this, but whatever... it will be here for you to measure the progress if I upload more selfportraits in the future.

Caffeine_stream: Thank you mate, yeah Im stuck on shading, but I'm trying to slowly slowly work with that.

Kfeeras: Thanks for advice, it really pushed me. I actualy hate drawing from life in public, sometimes I use to do that traveling by bus or train, but I hate when people starting to stare at me and its geting worse when they realize that I'm drawing them. But I need to use to that right? I wait for school year to begin, itll be much more publicity for me, sitting in the classroom/school/art school, drawing friends, you know... Thanks again.

I started studying hands a bit. Here it goes. I know I should draw more of them from life, thats a bit hard to do that digitaly so most of these from a head. Ill make some traditionaly on a paper from life, but itll be not uploaded.

oh darn. That is what I call the difference between hardwork and talent! Please do not pursue a career in the arts! You must give me a chance!

Ok, I'm geting my "studio" seting up, so I can paint more often now.
Heres anather still life painting sketch of fruits, I'm planing to do that every night and I hope this becomes a project. :steph:

hey man was gonna post this before but i forgot!!!
the still life's are going good. maybe try and add a few more colours, just remember you are painting the way light acts on the object, not the object itself, so altho the apple may be green or the orange maybe....orange there will prob be other colors in there due to the light such as yellow, red, orange and all the colors of the rainbow!

res01ve

You definitely upped your game.
Perhaps some backgrounds for those new flowing figures?

Slothman86
August 27th, 2008, 03:53 PM
You have proven in this thread that you will do the work. So, take the compliment either which way. This is my outlook...

talent- natural ability
skill- ability through hard work
hard work- process that usually results in a refined product and in which one can obtain ability (also known as practice), can also be recognized from the product of itself being in that the product is precise to a fine degree(really confusing where's my oxford...)

So, when someone looks at your art and says, "You have talent/skills," you can say "Yep, I do *pause* BUT this is my hard work!"

Girls like guys with skills!

P
August 28th, 2008, 07:45 AM
Caffeine_stream: thanks for advice, Ill try to add more colors in tonights painting for sure!

res01ve: thanks man, I dont know, maybe ill make some next time, but im afraid that mine backgrounds will make my drawings look bad...

Slothman86: thank you for all this :)

I been busy non artisticly these days, you know schools coming, need to prepare for that shit... :\

School recess ended, so I'll not draw and upload so often than I did before.

The edges are much improved on this still Life.

The thing that stands out most, other than the background are the speculars.
Perhaps try mixing in a bit of their base color, so that they're not straight white and they will look more natural. Right now the white is so pure, it gives the appearance that the light bounce is sitting on top of the fruits.

I do like your blending style. I also, for whatever reason, really enjoy that you have the pencil in the photo.

you've got some great stuff coming out here.. careful with your painted fruits that you are keeping aware of the slight colour variations in light and shadow, often the fruits colour will reflect onto the surface, and the surface onto the fruit.. the still life at the top of this page flattened a bit.. i don't think the shadows needed to be so dark.. be careful to only use straight black when absolutely necessary..

only nitpick: your crosshatching looks a bit messy, take your time and follow the form!

About eyes, yeah I got some critics about it before, hopefuly I'm planing to make some more seriuos studies of the head some day - ill touch the eyes too. Thank you for your critics, it pushed me.

A.GEAN: Thanks again, I'm glad u like it! :^^:

alshakno, thanks! And ur welcome. Other resources? No I dont, thats a shame, but i guess charecterdesigns.com photosets is enough for practicing nude drawing from ref, and they update photosets too.

I'm still learning drawing heads, starting to understand the planes better. I have a big trouble shading though, also I feel like I dont understand how the head should look like when I put it into some more difficult perspective. Need to come up with some more self portraits or other references used to solve that perspective problem I guess.

only one critique ( i know am not at the place for that but really want to see your improvement)
the way you shade your characters make them look flat!
if it is kind of crosshatching, if there be some tones by more line crossing there would be a better volume!(wish you understand it because i don't understand myself what i said :D )

the environments looks really nice
where studies come from? from anybook?

waaaoooo look at all theose beautiful studies those sketches are beautiful and the digital stuff is pretty good too im not sure how far along you are in a digital media stil looks like your beginning to get in to it but those sketches are wonderfully handled the only thing i think might help is defining the edge of one side in your sketches by either line weight or just making sure its a crips line and leaving the others loose like you have it will bring the piece in to more focous and add just a little more depth thats all i have get back to work...no im jk take a break i have no chance of catching up

\
edit..man i cant stop looking at that portrait the tone are really good
