Hey guys, I'm practically making a topic here every couple days, so I'm feeling a little bad about the fact that I havnt contributed much in posts, but i have a ridiculous amount of questions -

at the moment, im looking for strong graphic design schools in which i can have an emphasis or concentration in illustration (im more interested in the illustration side, but for money, flexibility, and marketability reasons, im looking at graphic design)

my list so far on what schools to look more deeply into -

Pratt
Art center college of design
u. cincinnati
VCU
RISD
MICA
SVA

im keeping my eye on MICA and Pratt because i keep hearing theyre fantastic graphic design schools, with cross major studies, and concentrations in illustration. however, i know squat about SVA. so what are the schools with strong graphic design/vis. com. design and illustration? which also has flexibility to take classes in both majors? -

Seems as though you're already looking at a fair amount of the AICAD schools already. You might also want to look at some of their sister schools as well and see if there might be a hidden gem in the lot that you never knew about.

You might even want to take advantage of the mobility programs available and try several of the schools you've got listed there!

Good luck with the search.

Er... also, does anyone know any schools like I have described, that are relatively cheap (and terrific?)? Or that offer a fair amount of aid? This $40000 per year for all these art schools are literally scaring the **** out of me. (yes i know U. cincinnati on my list is pretty affordable)

Or is that just not possible? The cost of all the top art schools I keep hearing about again and again are making me feel a little depressed. I've heard about MassArt, though I'm not sure on how good the school is - anyways, thanks for all the input so far

idk about all of them, but i just got into pratt and got a pretty decent amount of scholarships and grants from them... still not gonna be cheap by any means but they gave me more than any other school i got accepted to.

Smaller studios like Watts Atelier can offer solid training in Illustration, for 1/10th the cost. But you won't find any real small programs like that for graphic design.

If you are really concerned about the cost, and you don't absolutely need a degree it is definately worth looking around at small ateliers and schools (if your primary goal is illustration).

Take a look at Max the Mutt In Toronto. Our tuition is around $10,000 per academic year, and the quality is high.

Do you have a two year program there?
