so, I'm trying to learn how to paint in oils, i'm a total novice in this arena. first one done with ref, second just to play around... gonna be doing a bunch more in the coming weeks. C & C, tips definitely appreciated!

Yes the second one really shows a lovely pallete and good highlights. The first one could use some contrast bewteen darks and lights. I like the hints of red and green in the skull. Keep at it man, nice practises. I'm new to oils myself, but from what I can tell these are a good start.

Yeah, the hues are nifty. Don't get too excited with putting white highlight dots everywhere though. Use them where they have the most effect, on shapes of importance etc.
I don't know much about oils but if you just make a lot of paintings, studies perhaps, then you'll probably figure out a lot of stuff yourself.
