View Full Version : Painting on mount board?

I have lots of mountboard, I was thinking that with a couple of coats of acrylic gesso it seems like it would be quite a nice surface to paint on as well as being cheap, light and easy to store.

I was planning to use it for oils, possibly over an acrylic underpainting, are there any reasons I've overlooked (paintings exploding, disintegrating, that kind of thing.) as to why this might be a really bad idea?

Possibly a daft question but hey, it won't be the first or last.

Mountboard was marked as acid free btw, no fancy heat activated coating or anything.
