hello... first post..

I think I've started this post perhaps five times now.. :o I am a semi newb digital artist. I say 'semi' because I've spent the better part of a yr doing 'Poser' art with a large amount of 'postwork'. Eventually I realized all I had missing in my work was the figure so... I decided to try to freehand all my work in photoshop. I've been wanting to get some opinions on my work and my sister told me this was the place to ask so here I am! thanks :)

this is something I did for my daughter's wall.

A good introduction indeed...

Greetings right back at you....and welcome..

The first picture looks great, there's something about it that irks a lil, but overall it's awesome...

Thanks! I'd like to get better so any constructive crits would be very welcome.

I had originally created this with more dramatic lighting but I thought perhaps it washed it out too much.

I think what's bugging me the most is the speckles on the rocks and ground. Most of the piece has a very smooth, soft quality to it. Those sort of uniform splatters on the rocks and ground are a jarring contrast. Seems like a cheap attempt at getting some texture on those objects. Pits on rocks are visible due to shadows cast in them (and subsequent highlights on the trailing edges)...these are just hard splatters that tend to flatten the object, dispite shading on it.

Beyond that it's a very nice picture. And the setting itself is rather charming. :)

*grin* ok ya you got me on the rocks. I confess I was feeling uninspired to make each rock unique so I tossed in some noise and shadow and called it good :) I will make a point to get some rocks from the garden and sharpen up my skills a bit more

thanks!

and 'allooooo Yeroc fancy meetin you here ;)
