Kinman...you are fantastic. I see you studied with Steve Huston - he's a great artist. I can see his influence a bit. You also reind me a bit of Dean Cornwell (who I'm sure Huston was influenced by) - probably my favorite illustrator of all time.

I'd love to see what else you'll create.

And now for the annoying curious question ... how old are you?

I really love the middle painting! Just gorgeous! Quick question, how long did the figure drawing (man with mustache) on the top right take you to do? Also, very nice! Same question for the middle painting. Again, great stuff.

Very nice stuff Kinman. I saw your stuff last night at Dallas' workshop for the first time. Your work is really good.

Thanks all for the comments! :chug:

to rambhat: the longer poses were done in about four to five hours of time.. the other studies are no longer than five mins (except for the very last head study i posted)..

it's hard to find classes that will have longer sessions than five hours, however this pose was about ten hours long (2 sessions)..

will post more soon..

those oil paintings are gorgeous. the only thing i would crit is the white spots of the canvas showing through on the first oil. those flesh tones on that second painting are so nice

those first two pages are wonderful. there is some really sensitive attention to light and edges in the second study.
a couple of these drawings a paintings have some proportional issues (ie large head on that one painting) which Im sure you've noticed. Otherwise these are fantastic. I've checked out your site before this post and I've enjoyed flipping through your work.

One more thing, on a more personal note... copying Sargent in photoshop should be a sin.... well ok its not that serious but digital paintings just have a wierd feel. they don't really do it for me... (this forum is probably the wrong place to post something like that .....)

anyways, well done.

I completely agree with the digital master copy comment... there are actually a few reasons why I did this digitally:

-to test my custom brushes
-get used to the color mixing on computer
-save time and hours (since it's hard these days to leave aside ten to twelve sittings worth)
-preserve the clean space in my room (don't want any unwanted oil smearing my walls and floor)..

Other than that.. thanks for noticing the problems in my paintings.. they've been apparent to me for a while now.. but hey.. improvement is constant... and they will get better..

cheers!

Everything on your site is outstanding. The colors, the compositions, the figurative work, WOW!!!

Are you still studying or are you working full time currently?

Oscar: Thanks!

Bohemot: I apologise.. I recently changed the organization of my site, so things won't show up anymore on here.. oh well.. that just means I have to do some better work in the future to post again..

Ron: Trying to find consistent work (I found out that Christmas is a pretty bad time to look for jobs).. but always a student, and will keep working on the foundational skills.. I love your work btw.. very solid..
