i got a photo in the paper!!

yesterday i took photos of the los angeles fire department taking care of business, today one of my photos is in the paper.
they didn't pay me, they cropped it funny and made it look shitty, but i got a credit and they put the url to my flickr page so i got a bit of traffic.
good enough for me!

jabo, funny thing, i set my white balance setting to a pale blue. thats what made everything look yellow.

Well, happy accident. This way, heat is conveyed in every image, no matter what object it is showing. Can you put in some technical details, shutter speed etc? Also, do you have any specific kinda rules you work with regarding composition? I'm always fascinated with how well some press photos are composited under such time pressure.

cant remember shutter speed... iso was 200
rules? nah.. i just shoot.
and the weird thing was, i felt like i was in total zen mode when i was taking the photos... crouched down camera on my face thinking "...turn to the left.. turn a little bit more... perfect *click*... ok look up... look at the fire on the roof... perfect *click*..."
thats what it was like.
