Awesome! I look forward to seeing the final thing. I love the patterning and the spiracles running down the lower half.
Things are good over here. not been working quite as hard, since i've been taking time off to see my cousin. Otherwise, the games coming along well! Putting the design sheets together now, so not long before we start commissions.
Good luck! what is it, like 3-4 weeks left til your deadline now?

..hope you have a big oven there for this ;)
...and I hope you got the sculpey for free from your school :)
Did you bake some insides already? or is the whole surface soft? if it is, it must be very hard to do some changes to a small area, without effecting the rest?!
do you know chavant clay? think for things like that it it is perfect?
really looking forwar to see more wip
cheers

yeah the ovens big enough! just! 5cm in it lol
as for free, nope! i had to pay for it myself!
the underneath is a wire frame and armature,.
I used chavant but the stuff at uni i think was very old as it crumbled wen drying, which is a shame, sculpey is a very nice medium to work in, i have enjoyed it very much, will make smaller models from now on tho cos this stuff is expensive

WOW!
A more organic interpretation of EVA 00, that's something new. I love the concept sketch. Great stuff.
I was wondering how many SS have you used this far. This is going to be one massive and heavy sculpture :D

Holy crap I didn't realize the scale of this thing!! So when you said the last lb of sculpey I was thinking "that's more than enough to make a head" until I saw this! Looks really cool! How many sculpts have you done?
I know at this stage you are finishing up so you can't do too much more but for your next one I would recommend drawing a line down the center of your torso and measuring the width from that line to each edge with some calipers before putting in detail. Then sculpt religiously off of that meridian to ensure proper symmetry. With a sculpt this big symmetry issues stand out a lot more and are harder to fix later in the game than a small maquette.
That being said great work so far on a very ambitious project! Can't wait to see it airbrushed!

This is my first sculpture Dee Bingo, its something i have wanted to try for a while now and this project at uni seemed like a good time to try something ambitious.
Yeah my symmetry is off which is a shame but i kinda went into this with no prior experience and having read only a few threads on this forum, itsa been very fun and i have learnt such alot!
more wip photos later today, then i will post the finished sculpt this weekend.
bye bye

hey sorry yeah i will post some decent photos of it, just gotta finish the last few little touches then i will get my friend to use his nice camera on it!
As for the glow effect madm4tt, it is a pearlescent pigment, sort of like the type of paint you see on cars sometimes where it appears that the car has two different colours and almost shimmers, its the powder thats in that, mixed with a blue paint and thinned a bit, was something i did not think would work but actually turned out to be a happy accident

Just how much Super Sculpey did it take to do this?
Would you use SS for a piece this scale again, or switch to something else, perhaps some sort of epoxy clay?
Anxiously awaiting photos of the entire finished piece.
Oh, what in the heck did you bake it in?
Ghostbrush
May 26th, 2008, 09:45 AM
I would not use super sculpey again for something of this scale. but this was my first go at sculpture and it seemed like a good choice at the start hahahaha, i baked it in a huge oven we have at uni, usually used for heating up plastic for drape moulding and such, took all the shelves out and just managed to get this bad boy in lol.
What kind of clay would i use for this kind of scale in the future? i do not know much about it to be honest

if i were to do something this big i might use celluclay. the problem with that stuff is that you can't get super detailed, BUT on the plus side, you can put paper clay on top of that for the details. and you don't need to bake it. both are much cheaper than sculpy.
