01.18.08 UPDATE
Hi all,
Here is a new peice to add to the series. Shes based on a historical character. Empress Dowager CiXi, who ruled Qing dynasty China for over 40years. Shes believed to be powerhungry and manipulative. The concept in this peice is that shes really old like 100+, hence the white hair. but she stays alive and young because of the medicine that is constantly pumped into her from the machines shes attached to. if she leaves her throne, she'll die of old age. I wanted to depict her hovering on her throne, emotionless and all powerful.
let me what u guys think=)

Dude, your website has a trojan (TrojanClicker)... Kaspersky anti-virus picked it up when I clicked the link. Might just be dodgey code, but I would advise all others to be cautious.
Nice artwork though.

Oh my... im almost overwhelmed by the amount of nice comments... thank you all of you so much! i hold ca.org in very high regards (ppl here are realllly good), so to hear so much so respond from this community means more to me then what any art teacher say.
speaking of which.. i had my senior review today, and one of the reviewers said that having the designs break the frame was really distracting to him. though i personaly feel that if i just had a plain background it would be boring.
does anyone feel that the framing was a bad idea?
cognition.sb: im not sure how that is possible, i just uploaded the whole site a couple days ago and i just scanned it as well on 2 diff computers and didnt find anything. but check your pm. im still very concern about this.

Really, really excellent work, James. Fresh concepts, very well executed. This does not look like student work. And I disagree with your professor, the images breaking the frame adds depth and immediacy to the images, takes them out of the formal rendering presentation. Trust your instincts.
Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see more!

Oh, man, great rendering on the metal and getting that weathered, old-timey feel absolutely perfect. I especially like that tractor robot - the little potted plant and umbrella up there are such a cool touch. Well, all the details are amazing.
I think having the designs break the frame is great - You did such a great job getting them to look 3D with shading and texture, using composition to the same effect is only natural.
Any plans for characters to inhabit this world?

I think you may just invented a new sub-genre : wuxia steam-punk.
I can imagine these vehicles in the Chinese equivalent of the "Samurai 7" anime.

Some wonderful concepts, twisting, yet remaining faithful to the oriental inspiration. Also your textures are marvelous, congratulations. ... and about the boarders, they create a sense of dimension rather than restricting your image within a box, theres nothing to worry about.

I think the frames look good. I was surprised by that remark, cause I was just thinking about how cool they look ;p
The detail in these is just ridiculous. How long do you spend on those steampunkish images?
