Hello, I draw stuff. Enjoy watching, and leave a comment if you feel like it. :)

Continued next post.

The first pages are from about this time last year, and then there's recent stuff, from december 'till now.

Hi and welcome to CA.org!
nothing much to say/crit then it allready looks promising!
keep studying hard, you're doing this all for yourself.
and show us your results here :)

cheers,
frank

PieMonster

Hey Frank, thanks for the welcome.

Here are some Loomis studies from today, and a couple of crappy digital sketches.

Dannelf
April 28th, 2008, 04:48 PM
Whoa! Now I can see that anatomystudies really givcs results! :)
Great pictures man! keep it up! :D

PieMonster
April 30th, 2008, 09:07 AM
Thanks Dannelf, yeah, anatomy studies do give results.

Here's a batch from yesterday and today, the ballpoint sketches were from today, at school, boring classes.

PieMonster
May 1st, 2008, 05:14 PM
Seriously, this page is slow at the moment.

Here are some Loomis arm studies from today.

PieMonster
May 5th, 2008, 04:06 PM
Some stuff from this weekend, haven't had much time for drawing really. I'm aware of the really short arms on the first dude in the second picture. Any critique would be great (I realize there's not many pictures to critique, but general critique would be great :)). Enjoy, if possible, haha.

Thanks for looking.

Cool looking sketches and characters!

LECO
May 5th, 2008, 04:40 PM
Cool studies man! I would love to see more of your digital art too, i can see some cool characters trying to break loose ;-) Keep it up!

Matsign
May 5th, 2008, 05:46 PM
wow you're off to an accelerated start. keep going! I like your pen drawings

PieMonster
May 6th, 2008, 04:46 PM
Thanks Kidult, LECO and Matsign :)

Some stuff from today / yesterday, the first picture is an attempt at making a fancy frontpage. Eh... The arm that is semishaded on the helmetwearing dude looks detached, as if it was attached to the body too high up on his side. And the deltoid of the top figure is just fucked up.

Gotta do some more lifes-studies and anatomy ...

PieMonster
May 8th, 2008, 05:18 PM
Gotta disappoint ya'll (whoever might be watching this thread) that there are no studies ... or life drawings. But, there is a characterthing I drew yesterday, and a couple of pages from today, after having looked through my Wes and DanielC folders. The last one is as you probably can see, not finished yet. I'm a bit annoyed by having sketched that far out on the side, the left leg (his right) is a few millimetres off the page.

Crits are highly encouraged. :D

SEVANS
May 8th, 2008, 05:50 PM
Some nice work here.
"All non-reffed (except for the loomis stuff, obviously)" unless your an anatomy master, use reference when possible.

For a 15year old your pretty damn good, so keep at it, study life, photos etc when you can't think of anything to draw... and have FUN.

Frank Gressie
May 12th, 2008, 11:55 AM
great updates!
you're pretty critic about your own work, thats a good thing. maybe try to change the things you dislike, and then post them here. also find your weak parts in the anatomy and write them down. make studies from them. I fully agree with SEVANS, you're pretty damn good :D

I'm 16 and your work looks better than mine.... damn...
hehe, please check my sketchbook

PieMonster
May 18th, 2008, 06:32 PM
Haven't been drawing much lately, school and freetime activities taking up much of my time.

Sevans: Yeah, I use reference too little, and I guess my anatomy lacks quite a bit because of it, I'll try to get into a habit of using reference more. And thanks! :)

Frank: Thanks, that seems like a good idea.

Salacuis: Thanks! :)

Here is some stuff from this week, been doing some pencil stuff as well, but haven't made anything worth showing (and considering my standars for what is worth showing, that is not good :O). Theres a grayscale head with color overlay variations, and a digital sketch.

May 18th, 2008, 08:40 PM
Nice start. :D
Very nice for a 15 year old, I wish I was at your level when I was 15. *_*
Keep doing what you're doing, I see improvement with every post. :D

PieMonster
May 19th, 2008, 06:29 PM
Thanks Aifolx!

Having had a day off from school I've been doing digital stuff mainly, so here is todays stuff that I figured was decent enough to show. :P

The brushtest painting, is well, a brushtest and not intended as a very serious environment. The brushes are the creation of m@., and they work wonders (in the right hands, of course(I'm not saying I have the right hands, haha)).
Number 2 is an attempt at painting a sketch, and it's currently in progress, as you probably can tell.

PieMonster
May 20th, 2008, 04:55 PM
Some stuff from today, and a couple of days old sketches.

#1 Progress on the WIP, huzzah!
#2 Sketch from today, took far too long considering it's complexity.
#3+4+5 Random sketches, with 2 reffed faces (improvement!) on the top.
#6 Marker sketch from today, gotta say the dude in the top left is the one of them I'm the most happy with.

Jeg kan allerede si at mye av dette ser meget lovende ut!
Liker spesielt godt ansiktene dine. Selv kunne jeg ikke tegnet et ordentlig ansikt om så livet mitt avhang av det.
Prøv å fargelegge noe med wacomen din, flott øvelse for å meste...vel...fargelegging.
Velkommen til ConceptArt!

PieMonster
June 4th, 2008, 05:52 PM
Takk for velkomsten og komplimentene, Iambanana. :)

Here's some random doodles from the last couple of days, haven't been able to draw much due to exams, and shouldn't really be doing this now due to an exam tomorrow, but anyway!

thesadpencil
June 4th, 2008, 06:31 PM
i like what i'm seeing here, you've got some sweet character concepts going on so far. i like the sketchiness of your pencils. i'd suggest doing more anatomy studies, and life drawing. in your paintings try pushing the values more to help give more depth and contrast, try to get thevalues to go along w/ how the form is. other than that just keep it up, you're definitely on the right track.

PieMonster
August 16th, 2008, 08:08 PM
Thanks for the tips, Thesadpencil.

I haven't updated in quite some time, hehe. Just got home from a couple of
weeks on Crete, actually managed to do quite a bit of drawing there. But
school's about to start again and I better start updating regularly, so I'll
start off with a drawing from life (omg!) which sucks. Then there are studies
from the last two days, and then there's older stuff.

Feel free to crit!

PieMonster
August 17th, 2008, 04:36 PM
So, today hasn't been too productive but at least I managed to do a bit of
colour! So these are my first 2 serious attempts at colour. The other colour
stuff here has been put together in 5 minutes maximum. And then there's a
SB page.

Would love crits on the colour stuff! :D

PieMonster
August 26th, 2008, 05:16 PM
Here's some stuff since last time, including women (omgz0r) and a self portrait. Crits are most welcome. :)

PieMonster

Stuff from the weekend. :>

Bullsey
August 31st, 2008, 07:20 PM
I just want to say that I'm aMAZED by your concepts and drawings. I'm 15 too and I'm trying to get a sense of place in this world as an artist and you just blow me away. Have a wonderful day!

PieMonster
September 4th, 2008, 04:41 PM
Cheers, Bullsey, actually, I'm 16, thanks a lot for the compliments!

So here are 2 (quite sloppy) color studies from today, the first one is reffed from here (http://www.fotocommunity.de/pc/pc/cat/11243/display/14123471) and is sort of color picked (bad bad) and then a study of my desk, wherein the colors are probably quite inaccurate. As long as it helps me get better at coloring! Both are done in Open Canvas.

Your drawing skill are coming along great!! You have some realy cool character sketches man!:)

TZA
September 6th, 2008, 10:14 AM
quality sketchbook piemonster. i really enjoy seeing how your construct your drawings, very loose. you seem to be on the right track, your anatomy and concept skills are coming along really fast too. push some darker tones into those moleskin sketches, maybe buy a darker lead? the stuff you've done in post 22 is my favourite in terms of rendering, the head of the warrior on the top right of the last one really caught my eye.

ill keep an eye out and hope you update again soon.

PieMonster
September 13th, 2008, 06:21 AM
Blekksprutape - Thanks! I will.
D@niel - Thanks!
TZA - Thanks man, I'll try to make the darks darker in the moleskine. You mean the man with the crownhelmet thing and the beard, right? I like that one too.

#1 was made in OC with Seth1 (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=1924267#post1924267) yesterday.

#2 Colour piece from today, all out of my head, would appreciate crits!

zelda_geek
September 13th, 2008, 07:16 AM
Hi Piemonster, thank you for commenting in my sketchbook. On that last one I suggest you define some harder edges, and also go a bit darker in the shadows. Some studies on skin tones you probably help a lot. But overall it's looking good, especially the pencils.:D

seth1
September 15th, 2008, 12:45 AM
Dude... Moreeeeeeeeee updates please :) I know you have more work. Your kicking my ass I better get a move on.

QETALIVAN
September 15th, 2008, 03:07 AM
strong sketches, I can see a lot of energy in them, keep working, pal!

PieMonster
September 18th, 2008, 04:26 PM
zelda_geek: Yeah, I see what you're saying about the hard edges, should've spent more time on it, and the contrast is definately too low.

seth1: Here's an update, for real!!!

QETALIVAN: Thanks!

So here are a some selfportraits from the last couple of days, the portraits on the left are the ones looking the most like me, the others; not so much. Then there's a Bridgeman study (got to do more!), and a ballpoint sketch, there was another figure on that page, but it was crappy, and sort of ruined the page.

zelda_geek
September 19th, 2008, 03:47 AM
Wow, pencils are looking good. You should work some more on faces, but the torsos are looking awesome! Very interesting concept you got there too.

Keep it up:)

PieMonster
September 19th, 2008, 08:22 AM
zelda_geek: All my stuff needs work, personally I think the torsos are worse than my faces, haha. Thanks for looking.

Self portrait, done with a mirror. Took about 1,5 hours. My face is way too high/long, but anyway, it's my first proper life-study with the computer. The values probably would have been better if I had squinted my eyes more. Oh well. Crits are most welcome! :D

algenpfleger
September 19th, 2008, 09:03 AM
Duuuuuuuuuuude good selfportraits! And really nice values. More more more! :D

PieMonster
September 20th, 2008, 06:08 PM
algenpfleger: Thanks for looking man! :D

So, I'm gonna start off by showing a sketch done 1 year + 17 days ago. I sincerely hope I'm not the only one that can see improvement, haha. Bridgeman. And then there's todays SP, they're quite fun actually. I'm not quite nailing the likeness yet, but hopefully I'll get there. A random page, there were a few more, but they sucked even more than this one. Don't know really. A man running from someone meets a monster, with tentacles?

Mischeviouslittleelf
September 21st, 2008, 07:54 AM
Hey man, thanks for the comment in my SB. I appreciate the crits^^

Nice stuff you got going here, though I would suggest you think less as you do poses and just try and wing it. Think og how people actually stand, considering weighting, balance and positure. Doing great so far though. Work hard and work more:D

-E

seth1
September 21st, 2008, 10:33 AM
Yeah, yeah, yeah! THis is what I am talking about. Morrreeeeeeeeeeee. Keep on pushing your self man you are doing great. Some times your figures get a little stiff and squashed watch out for that. I think it happens when you don't have enough room to draw what you want to draw.

I will try to keep my hamachi open when I am on the internet. So you can just Msg when ever your on there.

PieMonster
September 21st, 2008, 04:16 PM
Mischeviouslittleelf: Yeah, the poses are stiff, I never (and I mean never as in I haven't done reffed gestures in like a year) do gestures, and it shows. That's a definate weak point of mine. Thanks for looking. :D

seth1: Thanks! I agree on the figures looking squashed sometimes, I have to think a little more before I put my lines on paper I guess. I'll get to you on Hamachi. :)

So for today there's just a couple of life drawings, haven't really been very productive at all. I'm quite satisfied with how the second one turned out. My dad moved away, when I had only gotten to his shirt collar, and the shape of his head. Then I just had to do a face there anyway. That's my sisters legs coming off the chair on the right, haha.
Then there's todays SP, which took waaaaay too long.

f1guremeout
September 21st, 2008, 04:26 PM
3 | #1 || Nice work with the attention given to the detaill within the character illustrated as a viking or warrior, however be weary of your subject matter and to reflect such thematic elements to your pieces' content. For example, try exploring a range of gestures and action poses to initiate interest to your character design. Be very articulate in form, line weights, line quality, and overall composition of your subjects within the given picture plane. This all goes without saying that you should consider understanding both human figure drawing skills and general anatomy to aid in you composition of character's theme. Its something that you just can't wish into existance and take plenty of time and patience with to not only understand, but master.

So, notes on improvement: concentrate on figure layout and accuracy; explore compund shapes and forms to build composition and complexity to the character's...well, character; and consider enhancing the WOW effect to the viewer with contrasting line weights and values.

PieMonster
September 24th, 2008, 01:08 PM
f1guremeout: Thanks for the crit man, I'm guessing you're talking about the 1 year old piece, but it still applies nonetheless!

Stuff from the last couple of days, this is not all though. School's taking most of my time lately. But next week's gonna have frequent updates for sure. :D

seth1
September 24th, 2008, 02:21 PM
Nice updates man. Your anatomy is getting better and better but watch those legs. In your portrait pay more attention to the form and placement of the eyes. Remember how they sit inside the eye socket. It's like a huge ass golf ball placed inside your skull. form, from...

Nibras
September 25th, 2008, 12:45 PM
LIke seth1 said your anatomy is really starting to improve
your drawings are looking nicer too
Nothing much to say but
keep drawings, study hard and
keep it up
lilnebo

PieMonster
September 25th, 2008, 03:55 PM
seth1: I completely agree on the eye thing, not thinking enough about how it's shaped, or the anatomy of the face, more about getting the values down, but when that fails as well, it looks bad, haha. I'm working on the legzzz!

Lilnebo: Thanks. :)

Here are some leg studies from today, in chronological order. Ref from www.characterdesigns.com.

Damn you, World of Warcraft!

still working hard i see, your studies are definitely helping, your anatomy is getting much more detailed. thanks for that characterdesign link, didn't know that place existed!

keep it easy

JustinBeckett
October 24th, 2008, 03:45 PM
Nice sketches.

But, I think you should do more anatomy studies and drawings from reference and life. Instead of all from your imagination, the more you know, the more your imagination will grow. Also, the way you fill in your values is really sketchy, try and use the side of your pencil and focus more on values, rather then all lines. If you are using lines, use more consistent lines, going in the direction of the form, follow the planes and remember your hard and soft edges.

Looking at your sketches again, be careful of the sketchiness of your lines. Keep them confident, use more swoopy lines, use your arm more then your wrist. Have confidence, try and get your lines down in a couple tries, instead of drawing one line and having it etch etch etch....

Keep on drawing!

~JB

PieMonster
October 26th, 2008, 04:32 PM
TZA: Thanks, working hard is a bit of an over-statement at the moment, I'll try to get back to it soon.
JustinBeckett: Thanks for the in-depth crit, you're spot on. I'll have to do more from ref and life.

Today: Stuff from life and a non-reffed sketch (yes, yes, I know).

Mischeviouslittleelf
October 28th, 2008, 05:03 PM
Holy cowdung man, those are some seriously strong (as in taking an overdose on steroids) studies there, good going! Two things though, and these are important.

1. When drawing from life, you have to do a good bit of brainwork, I notice a lot that when I don't reflect on what I am seeing, stuff looks very flat. Notice angles, dimentions and so forth. You'll see improvement fast anyways, but those are some personal focuses of mine

2. Kom til Oslo på søndager og bli med å tegne folk. Det er litt som Bobby Chius subway sketching, men vi holder til på kaffeer istedet:D

-E

PieMonster
October 29th, 2008, 05:48 PM
Mischeviouslittleelf: Thanks! About #1, I'll think about it next time, not that I don't think about it now, but I can get a lot better at that, and everything else.

#2 Vet ikke helt hvordan jeg skal komme meg til Oslo, bor i Larvik, kan jo ta toget, men opplegget høres jo greit ut ellers. Skulle gjerne vært med, får se hvordan det blir. :>

Random stuff, perspective+value stuff that is sucking balls, not going to render the next perspective thing, haha. The fact that both the perspective and the values suck is quite sad.
Got to apply the anatomy studies to some actual human reference for it to stick I think. Or just do more studies.

PieMonster
October 30th, 2008, 06:18 PM
Trying to get into a habit of updating more than once a month, haha.

Random sketch.
SP, haha, it's completely skewed, and I look confused. Next one's going to be better I hope. We'll see.
Back studies, the upper right drawing is non-ref to see if I've learned anything, maybe I have. :P

grenappels
October 30th, 2008, 10:35 PM

bigfooTrooper: Thanks, I agree on the background, going to fix it, it looks weird the way it is now.

The page on the left is from life and the one on the right is pretty random really, haha.

Twitchfinger
November 4th, 2008, 07:53 PM
Really impressive progress from page 1 to 3! :) One thing I might say is to keep an eye on proportions.. mostly head sizes. They seem to shift around a bit from drawing to drawing. Looks like you're going full steam though. Keep 'em coming!

PieMonster
November 5th, 2008, 04:40 PM
Clochette: Thanks! The problem is that these 3 pages have taken about half a year though, haha. :D

HumbleEgo: Thanks!

ruuhkis: Thanks, I will!

Twitchfinger: You're right about those proportions, I'll keep an eye on it, thanks!

Random from school. Progress on the wip. Studies. SP. Study.

i think you're going to be a really great draftsman if you keep it up. your highest points are really high which shows a lot of potential, like in post 69 lol. good job on their legs especially. and on the recent skull :)

PieMonster
November 6th, 2008, 01:36 PM

Update on the skull, guess it's sort of finished, although the upper part of the picture could use some work.

Kim_bot
November 6th, 2008, 01:55 PM
Great! Lots of improvement already.

Try changing up the poses of your characters though. Since you seem to be keeping up pretty well with the life drawing, try incorporating some of the poses that you see in real life into your own drawings.

Gloominati
November 6th, 2008, 03:54 PM
uuuuh yeah baby, this thread is going to be a lot of fun, I see it :D You have improved a lot since oyur first drawings you've posted here. obviously you're doing the right things just keep on doing them A LOT!

Another thing that you should always be aware of when drawing: Take your time! There is no need to rush through a drawing. I am telling you that because some areas of your drawings look a bit "too quickly drawn" making your lines look sloppy. Just keep focused every seccond you put your pencil down on the paper.

Keep on rocking dude, I will definitely keep an eye on this thread :D

Random stuff from the last couple of days, school's taking most of my time lately. I'm sort of regretting not choosing the art-related schoolthing, but anyway, I have to do more studies, and maybe try some other medium or something. So there will be studies, sometime soon(ish), haha.

hey man, really like your figures. I would suggest doing a few studies of clothes observed on real people though, as some of yours look a little formless. try a few quick drawings from www.hel-looks.com, great variety in clothes and figures, has really helped me a lot

wookiedabo: Thanks for the link! Did some studies from that site, gotta scan them in though.

enthombed: Thanks, dude! :D

Enydimon: Uh, dunno, study anatomy and people and then draw semi-accurate proportions, and look at how other artists draw their stuff. It's all about practice really, I guess. Having a hard time explaining, and it probably makes no sense, but as far as I'm concerned I should definitely do more studies of real people.

Small update, just some random OC stuff, gonna scan some paper stuff tomorrow or something.

It's basically a head floating in nothing, and then a head floating in the nothingness once more, with added plates on his forehead. Haha. Oh well...

First is a sketch from when I discovered CA and tried to do this awesome sketch, from May 1,5 years ago.
A few studies from the site Wookiedabo linked, gotta do more studies from there, and quicker ones, cause I spent way too long rendering them.
Then theres a study from Ingres. Link here (http://anatomy.cgnetworks.com/OFDW%20020/010.jpg).
This is from the weekend, cause school, football and SSX On Tour is eating all my time. There is more random stuff, but it's not worth uploading.

D@niel: Thanks, I was a little shocked when I saw the picture and saw how bad I was, haha.
TheGnoll: You're spot on about DanielC influence. Him and Wes are definitely the artists whose work I look at the most, and I guess it sort of shows in my sketches at times. As long as I'm not copying their style (which I hope I'm not, hehe). Thanks!
Kian: Thanks! :D

Just a couple of over-rendered www.hel-looks.com studies. Sort of started as cloth study, then turned into render study, oh well.

Awesome stuff. Very strong progress, your pencils are getting very tight. Value graduations are still a bit too harsh at some spots - aim for a wider value range and try to organize them in groups.

If you take that drawing for example: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=544511&stc=1&d=1229728276

it has some very strong areas but the overall value range (or the relation of one area to another) is lacking. Some parts in your lit areas are as dark as the areas in shadow, which shouldn't happen. You're nearly there, just grasping that concept completly takes some time..

Great work.

PieMonster
December 23rd, 2008, 05:53 PM
saa: Thanks, you're completely right about that picture. There was light coming from the computerscreen on one side, that's why the side is lighter, but I guess I went too light. I've read the "shadow side is always darker than the darkest dark on the light side" mantra many times, although applying it is a whole different thing. Really appreciate the crit, hopefully it'll get me thinking some more while I'm drawing!

Haha, this SP is so crap. That's what you get for having the worst light setup, and only an hour or so to paint it (I'm slow as shit). Next time I'm doing window lighting I'm gonna make sure I have more time, and a bigger window. It's only my second ever SP from life though, and yesterdays' was a lucky one. Tomorrow is school, yay.

I get all depressed looking at yesterdays SP, haha, it sucks so bad.

I really need to do more studies, and learn how composition works. The SP for today turned out crap, so I studied some features (of my own face) instead, and that in turn became an SP, so I guess it wasn't all bad.
And then there's just random shit.

looking very good man, very good

i second archip comment, and add that sometimes you sketches seem a bit too "random", as if they were made up with rendom bits put together.
Its cool, and its def good practice, but sometimes try and challenge yoursel with a concept or somekind of "self assignment"
not saying to substitute this to you normal routine, but to add it, once in a while. You could do great in CHOW man :)

Good stuff man, your figures and anatomy look great. It seems however that on some of your figures, the wrist joint doesn't look proper. Sometimes I feel like you should show the bony shape and structure of it more, like the head of the ulna at the wrist should be more pronounced. That's just kinda nitpicky though, so keep up what your doing it looks awesome.

pie monster-- really love the 3 dimensional quality of the facial structure on that first painted face... you've really brought that out well-- and your general sketching is awesome -- love the weapon wielding dudes in pencil--- though there seems to be some stiffness in the drawings--- i think you gotta work on portraying figures and limbs in perspective--- that would definitely make the viewer feel the motion in the drawing--- other than that your sketching is pretty awesome --- keep at it dude :)

16? holy shit dude! you have got some great things goin on here! :asspat:

I really dig your character doodles and it would be cool to see some color stuff from you, where you have to force yourself to work mainly with patches and overall shapes instead of lines.

I will keep checking back buddy!

Pyroclasm00: You're probably right about the wrist, thanks!
Hari Gopinathan: Thanks for looking, and yeah, the people look stiff.
mr. m: Colour stuff is on it's way, haha. Thanks.

Didn't get to do too much this week either, but it's better than nothing.
I know the colour sketch is really washed out and looks shit on the white BG, but it was looking semi-decent while I was making it, haha. The pieces are in chronological order.

Already improving. Proportions are good, but watch the connection of the head to the torso, study the neck area and keep in mind how big the head is in relation to the rest of the body. Value wise I would suggest to do really simple studies, you really need to understand light and shade first of all. I really like your colour sketch. As you mentioned, it would work out better on a toned background. All in all the values are fine, only at his stomach area the place where the blue and the main light meet should be darker. Watch your proportions when painting. His right shoulder is distorted upwards and the right side of his face is distorted downwards. Always keep mental guidelines for symmetry and perspective. You're on the right way, just keep moving!

awesome updates mate, especially loving the torso in the black circle on the second page. Don't neglect women in your studies tho, draw some girls. Still, great stuff.

saa: Thanks a lot for taking the time, really appreciate it, will work on it!
wookiedabo: Thanks man, yeah, women are lacking. :)
evildisco: Thanks, I just did some quick lines and threw some color on top without thinking too much really, and it ended up with the white background.
Sublimus: Thanks, we'll see, haha.
paperX: Yes, foldpractice is good to have, I'm not really working too hard though, feels like I'm slacking really. Thanks! :)

For today: Quick colorstudy (too quick), did another, but photoshop decided to die on me halfway through. THen there's thumbs for the chow, and the chow at it's current state. Would love to get some crits on it.

Hey! Placement and lightning looks good, but the pose is a bit stiff. Just my opinion! Kepp at it.

finish it !
Also you might want to add some of the sky's reflection in the shadow in the floor behind her. At least keep it in mind. Keep those good values going man :]

February 25th, 2009, 11:04 PM
That CHOW is looking great the figure has a good sense of form developing.

And i agree with _Mr_M that the area at the bottom needs to have something added to it so the viewer's eye isn't drawn to it.

Nice SB!

the ballpointpages are madness, dude.
really cool studies as well, especially the boxers look good.
and definately finish that jedi, those finished digi paintings always bring up a few points you need to practice more.
so far it looks really good, the only thing that bugs me at this stage are her legs.
the knee on her back leg is lower whereas the foot is a bit higher in perspective, which makes the lower leg look a lot shorter.
keep working it, mate!

_Mr_M: Yeah, I'm good at stiff poses, haha, thanks!
DanielC: Good point about the reflected light of the sky, thanks man!
paperX: Thanks, I'll definitely do something about it.
deeLock: Thanks, ^! :)
monotony: Spot on crit man, initial bad placing and then using the transform tool doesn't add much to the perspective, haha. Thanks a lot!

Just some quick ballpoint stuff, thanks for the crits on the piece, I'll keep all of it in mind! :)

Love your sketches. The lines are clean, yet full of energy. Just keep it up.

Regarding the digital painting, I think the legs look awesome. You need to work more on the head and torso though. A bad face can ruin the whole piece, you know...

Keep it up mate:D

zelda_geek: Haha, you were right about the face, it was sketched out in a couple seconds, it was far from finished. Thanks! :)

Finished the chow, here you go, think I fixed most of the things that you guys mentioned, apart from the stiffness. Also included a 100%. O_o
Sorry for the bad quality JPEG.

wow, you have some pretty sophisticated lines in your figures, reallygood stuff! watch the construction of your faces though, i know its a lot to pay attention to at once but its the only area of the figure i can think to tell you to work on. keep it up!

and lol http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=591203&stc=1&d=1234458476 are you really gonna blame lag? its not even a wacom drawing where that is semi-feasible hahaha i should probably get in the habbit of writing "lag" instead of "fuck" next to every sketch i mess up on just incase i offend too many

Smarty
March 1st, 2009, 07:48 PM
especially since you changed the arms that last one just doesn't quite look weighted right. Pay attention to shoulder vs hip direction. Here their almost the same, its not a flat upright object moving through perspective. The bodies shoulders and hip counter balance each other.

paperX
March 1st, 2009, 09:54 PM
goood stuff man! digging the lines in the last update, I think the foreshortening on the arm looks a bit off, it looks so extreme that the hand should be bigger, or the forearm should be longer. but enough about that, every piece is a good practice, keep working hard man!

takk for comment på Sketchbooken min :D tar resten av commenten på engelsk, trenger treninga :P

That last pic looks realy good :) I think that to make it look less stiff you should have made the neck a litle longer. and the forshortening on the left arm is not perfect :/ the horns are not pointing the same way and I think it'd look bether if the caracter was standing out more against the background. brighter colors maby :P hope i could help you in some way

grenappels: Thanks dude, you're right about the faces, I have to spend more time I think. About that sketch, it was supposed to say lal which is just a really lame way of saying lol, but writing lag is even better, hahaha. :D
smarty: Very good points, when looking at it it seems akward, thanks!
paperX: The foreshortening is definitely off, probably should've had a longer upper arm and lower arm, and just plain executed it better. Thanks!

I get some Floris Didden vibes when looking at this work (good thing!).
You might want to think a bit about the 4 main values when working in pencil (light, lightmidtone, darkmidtone, shadows) and how to distribute them in the page and in the objects. You could try getting some of the shadows dark enough in the beginning so you have enough contrast and something to measure the other values to. Your anatomy is already really impressive for your age!

I'm subscribing!

PS: draw more wominz

Sketches are flowing nicely! Loose. It's good you're using 1 complete line to draw out your idea instead of fuzzy little bits of lines that "look" like one. Very good there. It'd be really interesting to see what you can produce if you sit down and really put some hard time and mileage into 1 piece.

Keep us updated :)
