I assume, mcotie, you mean while nobody was paying attention earlier this year, while while some in the anti-war crowd were telling us what we know now.
I have to admit I'm still a bit on the fence as far as the motives to go to war, but if after all this time and so many destructive wars in our history, if 'we' haven't caught on to what the act of war is all about then then 'we' truly are blind.

The rest of the world knew this all the time. The UN have been there for years and years looking for them. I got totaly shocked when Bush started ranting about WMD. He wanted a war and was looking for exuses. Thats all.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ .... HMMM, WHA .... NO WMD's ... Well, the wholesale slaughter of his own people and Sadistic torture his son's inflicted on men, women and children and his free haven/support for terrorism are more than enough reason to oust them from power.

As a vet myself I am a little pissed about the whole situation ... I was in the Gulf twice and saw shit that would make your head spin ... but flat out - Saddam and his sons were vile, evil human beings. And it is your duty as a HUMAN BEING to help protect those that cannot protect themselves.

The WMD's were an excuse, albeit not a great one. Would have been better to flat out say "Hey, there are some Evil bastards that we need to shit-hammer. While we are there we'll help rebuild but we'll take a few million barrels of oil as payment."

War will ALWAYS happen. Power, money, religion, women throughout time man has decided that war is the best last resort action to take. We just have to hope that the motives, clouded as they may be sometimes, are correct. This time - I feel they were justified in the action not the reason given.

(Yes, this is long, sorry!)

SO I was thinking about his the other day.

I believe about 25% of what I read these days. The media has gone above and beyond the call of duty in flat out lying to the WORLD population. Then I was listening to all the "did we know, did we not know" about the existance of WMD's? THen I drifted on to Hussein. I was thinking about how stupid he was... then it dawned on me. If I was him... and I wanted to truly hurt an opponent that I KNEW I could not beat in a battle, let alone an all out War, what would I do? Maybe I would pay CLOSE attention to my Intelligence gatherers, Soak up all the reporting going on and use every diplomatic channel I had to delay the inevitable LONG enough to destroy EVERY shred of evidence I had of what I was developing AND set a system of disinformation into play that lead EVERYBODY, even my closest allies, into believing I had some wicked shit at hand. I would set up my enemies defeat at the hands of his own people and press. Kinda what's happening right now.

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."

- President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
- President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face." - Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten time since 1983."
- Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."
- Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin (D-MI),
Tom Daschle (D-SD), John Kerry( D - MA), and others Oct. 9, 1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has invigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies."
- Letter to President Bush, Signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL,) and others,
December 5, 2001

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandated of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them."
- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force-- if necessary-- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do"
- Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weap ons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members.. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction
... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real"
- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

Every SINGLE open mouth, slack jawed person who now stands on the deck bellowing "WE WERE DECEIVED" stood in the limelight crowing "WE MUST BELIEVE" not too long ago...

My opinion is this... THe president says "hey, He's got horrible weapons that can kill us all so we have to go stop him" O.K. Then he says "Well, he may not have them any more, but in the process of trying to find them we found irrefutable proof of mass murder, torture beyond our wildest thoughts and tyranical rule" MY response... "Thanks for stopping him, I'd like a ham sandwich!" WMD's or no WMD's WHO CARES... not me. Was I lied to? No... WMD's was the MAIN push to go to War....

NOT the only one.

But I guess the press forgot that part.

I ask myself that everyday. The easy answer is that Iraq and Iran were at war and he promised to keep a steady barrage of Hell on Iran. Hell, I unloaded cases of weapons from my ship onto awaiting Iraqi patrol boats. The Government flip flops ALL the time on people in power. There are WAY too many unstable governments out there, especially in that region of the world. The job of the government is to play the side that will benefit their country the best. Then when they outlive their usefulness or don't want to play ball anymore they jump to the other side which, suprisingly enough, is many times ready to accept them with open arms.

one year later, thought and positions remain the same.

the only thing that scares me is that, being a pro american, i'm damn scared about what might happen in the future. especially when i analyse the anger people in the world have towards the states. US peeps are not always aware of that new preoccupying and dramatic phenomenon.
the occidental control of the middle east WILL absolutely bring more conflicts in the next years. even the moderate arabic world is slowly falling into the jihad, to a point of no return.
it is not about being for or against this war as it is now done, it's just about being ready for its long term consequences.

bush may not believe in a more global conflict of civilisations.

And if we get nuked or taken over, then we do, worrying wont change anything. Live ur life and have fun 1 day at a time.

Josh, what are you smokin? get a grip. From what I remember, you're American too right? we went to the same school. Look, the flag waving fashion statement was irritating while it lasted, but what would you rather Americans do. Ignore it? I think not. It happened. It happened in your flippin back yard.
The point of this post was my anger at my government (the one I sacrificed 17 years of my life to) used the sept 11 event to manipulate us into achieving goals in a fashion that will hurt us in the long run. And Stalecracker's point was to show how the media thrives on all of the bullshit and changes faces when it suits thier ratings.
You on the other hand my friend come off shootin half-cocked making yourself and otheres like you look really bad.
You can be American and proud of it and still disagree with what your government is doing. You can protest and question their authority if you have a point to back it. Ranting like you did, while holding a checking account and an address in this country, makes Americans look bad.

and all of that said without using an F-bomb.

Is it just me or does the lack heavy media coverage of the real threat facing the world today (N. Korea) amaze anyone else? If you dig deep enough into the news websites, you'll find that just the other day the Koreans processed enough fuel rods to build a dozen nuclear weapons. I mean, not that they would actually build them.. of course they were just processing them for the fun of it.

I've always felt that N. Korea was and still is a bigger threat than Saddam.

Oh, and by the way... for those interested in knowing why we are having issues with the koreans, it's basically because the American government refuses to talk peace with them. North Korea has been offering peace talks and non-agression agreements, but since we refuse to hear it, they have decided that they need nukes. Here is a country that is willing to talk, and yet instead for some insane reasons we are facing a nuclear stand-off. Politics...

Joel. ..you always hit it right on the head! LOL!!
The press pisses me off too. But it's a love / hate relationship. One thing I realized recently when I was watching some stupid debate on T.V....was , as stupid as some of the questions or statements made were, our mass media is one big forum. This is the good part. The sad part is that some of these questions sound more like acusations or facts....since facts are what the news is "supposed" to be reporting. I wish the news would just report the facts and forget about reporting every single fucking rumor or "hot" question of the minute.
This is why we have to always weed-out the facts when we watch the news. Back in the day the press would just report the unbiased facts and not ask so many dam stupid ass questions!!!

I'm tired..sorry for repeating the word "facts" so much...need sleep. Hope I made sense. zzzzzzzzzzzz

bRyaN, were you alluding that oil is the cause of all history's wars, or religion. It's the latter, for obvious reasons. but don't get me started on how fucked up Catholicism is! I'm sure someone here is offended by that statement and will think I'm an a$$hole for saying it, but that's my opinion and you can agree or not.

complete2 don't say "Fuck 911, fuck Americans," you fucking anti-American. Yeah we're greedy bastards, but did we deserve to have thousands killed in a few short hours because some crazy fuck thinks that Allah wanted him to do that? Fuck terrorism, if you have to fuck something, dude. Your statement was ignorant and just plain idiotic. And when dealing with terrorism, we're back to religion behind the cause of "conflict" (which is the tidy American term for war). Lastly, there will always be people who think the country sucks and bitch constantly about this and that reason. In true American-fashion, we focus on the problem instead of the solution. Since you hate American and it's citizens so much, move immediately to another country and bitch about us there, you pretentious prick.

Just a little FYI on the flag thing and how alot of people think it was a phase or something. It hasn't gone away in NYC. There are still flags in office windows, on buildings, everywhere really. I ride under a huge Never Forget banner at each end of the Lincoln Tunnel every day. This city hasn't packed up the flags and signs just yet, and after two years of this I think we can safely say that it's not just blind patriotism.

complete2: If you want I can introduce you to my uncle so you can tell him how shitty his 343 tattoo is. But I'm sure he would take it pretty well. After all, it's only a tribute to the guys he's known for years who never came home that day, as well as all the other fireighters that were lost. Yeah, I don't think he'd beat the shit out of you or anything. After that you can stop by my other uncle's place and tell him he should get over the 911 thing and take that stupid flag off his house already. I mean, really.. it's been two years. He should be over the fact that while he was running out of tower 1 a body slammed down to the ground a few yards away from him. The whole flag trend should be over by now, right? After all, it's just a cash cow that should be completely sucked dry by now, right? All these people hanging flags and getting tattoos are just jumping on the bandwagon, right? Yeah.. right.

The shitty Americans were the ones trying to sell anything related to the World Trade Center on eBay (everything from souveniers to coffee shop receipts) the day of the attacks. The Americans hanging flags were being true Americans, renewing a sense of patriotism that once was quite common in our society. But it is unfortunate that it sometimes takes a tragedy to renew our sense of patriotism.

I don't think any American should EVER forget 9-11. Just imagine if we lived in Palestine or Israel. Our society is too focused on "easy". It's easy to buy plane tickets, it's easy to get your boarding passes, and apparently is was easy to hijack and crash a plane into a building. I like seeing people displaying flags, but sometimes I wonder if it's just because everyone else is doing it. For example, I have to doubt people that have a flag sticker hanging in their SUV, which I get a good, close look at as they cut me off on the road because they're busy talking on their cell phone to Thurston at the office to SELL-SELL-SELL that Clonaid stock. It's sad that our country only can be nice and compassionate to one another during a tragedy.

My buddy's mom took down her flag to protest Bush declaring war on Iraq. I got into an argument with her that day and now I'm not welcome at their house.

The root of all wars, and generally persecusion of religions and countries is fear, fear of the unknown. 911 was horrible. NO country should have to go through that much death, but the sad thing is, other countries go through this and worse. During the iraq massacre(my own title, to each his opinion) debate, I wonder how many people realized that 10,000+ peaple died in france, and thats just from mother nature. The US media hyped the return of that female soldier held captive in iraq, But failed to mention that a US peace activist in Israel protesting the bulldozing of Palestinian towns was run over by an Israeli bulldozer, then the bulldozer proceeded to run over her corpse a few times. Did she matter? i sure didnt hear anything from CNN or ABC that day.
Watch that part in 'Bowling For Columbine', that cartoon about fear. The media compounds fear, and politicians feed of of that fear to get more votes for next year's elections. Thanks thats my two cents:)

Allow me to aplogize on behalf of the American people for letting 9-11 to remind to care about our fellow countrymen. You are right; it was totally wrong of all of us to say that we actually care about our country and are proud of what it stands for. It was completely inconsiderate of us to show the depth of our courage, heart, and comitment; I realize how akward we must have made you felt, when you looked at the selfishness and heartlessness inside yourself and were forced to compare it to the brave and selfless firemen, police officers, and miltary personel, and all the other real Americans who proudly back them. And as people "jumping on the patriotism bandwagon," that may be true for some, but not for all by a long shot. Patriotism resurged not because it was a fad, but becuse there were a whole lot of people who were patriotic already, and they were given a renewed need to express it.

And as for "KILL ALL RELIGIONS!!!!! KILL ALL THE GODS!!!!! then we won't have any more wars"
Trying to kill all religions wouldn't end war; it would spark the biggest war the world has ever seen. You could send all the armies of the entire Earth against me and I still wouldn't give up my faith. And there are many more like me out there. I'll be damned before I'd give up my right to my beliefs.

I have friends and family who have suffered for their faith thier country, and those they love and will not have you or anyone else mocking their sacrifices. If you don't like what America stands, or think that "americans are really fucking shitty people" then I suggest you get out of my country.

fa·ce·tious
adj.
Playfully jocular; humorous: facetious remarks.

yes i was being ridiculous. i was grouping all americans into the group that are narrowminded and getting all patriotic just because of 911. hell, that day i had thoughts of joining the army....but see, i had these thoughts before flag sales went up, before all the books came out. the tattoo comment was directed to someone who didn't know any firemen, but still got a tattoo to commemorate them so he could be on the news. fuck that. fuck them. its dissapointing to see that sort of thing going on.

yes im an american.
i was just in a crazy mood and having fun. thats all. but you all made great points. and your all correct. i completely agree. what i said was a generalization. and you have to admit that alot of americans are really fucking shitty people. and those were the people i was talking about. the ones that jumped on the patriotic band waggon to fit in. fuck them.

you learn more when you dont speak.

I can't think of a single moment in modern history that there wasn't a war going on in some fashion. So, whatever.

The only way to end war is to get rid of everyone, or at least reduce the population enough so that the wars become small fights or arguments.

well, thats my comment. enjoy.

and my comment against religion was not false either. religion has caused more human bloodshed than anything else. including money.

Thanks for the follow-ups, complete2. I do see where you're coming from, but I'm sure you can also see why we got a little pissed by your comments. Statements like that about something as sensitive as 9|11 that don't include a good enough explanation and are full of generalizations will never be well received or understood. I totally agree that there are alot of shitty people who tried to capitalize on this tragedy (I saw a receipt from a WTC coffee shop being sold on eBay the day of the attacks). But regardless of the fact that I agree with that, the way you worded your comments wasn't effective and after reading them I just wanted to kick your ass. :)

Same goes for the religion comments. I agree (because it is a fact) that religion has caused more bloodshed in war/conflict than anything else, but saying "kill all religions" doesn't help your arguement.

My point: Your explanations helped, but I wish it was included in the original messages so that they could have been received in proper context. Just a thought for future reference...

The only way to prevent war besides eradicating human life would be to take away all things we are passionate about...
