View Full Version : Best 2D digital art magazine?

I've been looking to maybe subscribe to something that covers both Painter and Photoshop. The official painter magazine seems to focus more on fine art but I don't really have a problem with that if it shows good techniques. Photoshop Creative also looks pretty good. And there's ImagineFX, which also looks like it has some nice stuff, but it seems to focus more on subject than technique (as in, how to paint a _____ as opposed to how to use certain processes. There's also 2D artist magazine, a downloadable PDF that's a good bit cheaper but something tells me it's not too comprehensive.

Here are the ones I'm looking at:
http://www.2dartistmag.com/
http://www.imaginefx.com/
http://www.paintermagazine.co.uk/ (pretty expensive)
http://www.pshopcreative.co.uk/ (pretty expensive)

So I'm just asking your personal opinion on these digital art magazines:
---in general (like are they worth the money?)
---do you know of a better one (in your opinion?)
---Out of these which do you think is best for learning techniques/methods?

[And I have a feeling someone might say something like "you can get every type of help and inspiration on CA (or some other online place)". I like magazines, like the idea of not flipping through windows if I'm doing a tutorial (nice hard copy), etc... so assume I'm forced to choose one.]

Thanks!

don't know about all those magazines exept for 2Dartist...i really like the magazine (exept for that ugly font they use :p), it has nice interviews...usefull tips, what i do find a tity bit negative about the magazine (being a painter user myself ) is that 90% of the time its all photoshop related ..tutorials...brushes...etc

ImagineFX is great, they seem to be able to get the a hold of the better artists to interview, the issue with Marko Djeurdjevic last year was excellent for example, and the recent one with the Dinotopia artist... awesome!

I just got myself a subscribtion haha!

Thanks for the opinions so far!

Does ImagineFX focus more on Painter, or Photoshop? I saw a little Zbrush on their site-- how much of the mag is 3D?

Very little of IFX is 3D, and what there is is usually in support of a 2D finish (using models for perspective, etc). The PS/Painter ratio is probably pretty close to the usage in the industry, i.e. mostly Photoshop, but plenty of Painter, too.
