i can dig it! great feel of rust and wearedness, i like the other materials too, such as the cloth thingy in the last picture. The girl bothers me, I would definitly have gone for a more naturalistic figure eventhough it might be harder, thisone is too comical for my taste. the sail on the boat would be cool if it was made out of fabric, is that temporary or do you preferr it in paper? i guess these are matters of taste, and i say your taste is good. nice!:)

I WILL BE TEACHING A NEW CLASS!!!
In this G N O M O N class you will be encouraged to express your creativity in as many ways as possible. We look at different illustrators each week for inspiration. These exaggerated character designs can be used as jumping off points for future animations, Zbrush figures, Graphic Novel concepts, and gallery work. We draw nude and costumed models with different themes in mind. This class in not about making perfect drawings but giving you an open arena to explore and learn to love drawing.

this makes one of the few rare times that i have seen something really awesome that was sculpted (non virtual) through various forms. Really like the texture and weathering that you have added to these.
Would be even cooler of they were composited with a backdrop just for show, but plenty awesome on their own.

U have got a great style here and i Love everything you posted here, but i do have a crit for the biker chick. her eye placement is not symmetrical at all. HER left eye seems a lot lower then the right one.
Also the quality of her face and especially the hair doesn't fit the quality of the rest of the piece. After seeing such intense detail, it is expected to see the hair having been textured with lines.

just use the attachment manager to attach a thumbnail of your desired image to be displayed alongside your thread. make sure you use your own image hoster for any other images that may be in that particular post.

How exactly do you add those toy parts onto the sculpt? Do you use some kind of glue or...?
Also do you know whats the best way to start sculpting, any recommendations on where to start without any experience?

Epias:
How exactly do you add those toy parts onto the sculpt? Do you use some kind of glue or...?
Jonny:
I use hot glue because it's fast and messy! Then if I have to, I add liquid epoxy to reinforce the pieces so they won't fall off.
Epias:
Also do you know whats the best way to start sculpting, any recommendations on where to start without any experience?
Jonny:
Best to start with what you like the most... human, robot, or what have you. If your using clay or Sculpey, you'll need a strong armature. Otherwise your sculpture won't stand up and you'll get frustrated... like me... laughs! Have fun with what ever you do and keep studying the masters and you'll eventually get to where you want. Don't show your work until your ready... some unhelpful criticism can completely derail your momentum. Enthusiasm is a hundred times more important than perfection!

Could you post a picture of the hand tools you use to sculpt these? I'm interested in seeing how you polish everything in the end and scrape out the bulk of it in the beginning. I'm a sculpting n00b, so I'd like to learn more. Some of your sculptures have great volume, by the way. Nice, full shapes.

The leather is bangin' - How did you do that?
I tried to sculpt the jacket to feel like bulky leather, like is had extra padding underneath. After I baked the sculpey figure I spray painted the whole thing black then applied the rust effect to the coat area. It's rust but I thought because it's a rusted coat, people would imagine it being leather. Folds are really hard for me to sculpt. I want to do another figure to practice rendering folds... I need to look more at master sculptors and less at photo reference.

Hey John! It's Jacob... you probably don't remember me, but I took one of your classes at a few years ago and ran into you a few times at the Tuesday night Life Drawing Speakeasy in downtown (I guess it's defunct now, unfortunately). You know you have some anatomy issues, don’t you? Namely around the shoulders and in the faces. Also, the characters' skin could use refined as it's not really reading to me. On another note, the mechanical components are nice, but not as symmetrical as they could be. I see a long path ahead for you.
