Well, this is my first post here on the forums, and this is my third pic
done completely with PS since I got my tablet!
As for the image, I don't like the black outline for the alien, but thats something of a habit since my pencil and paper days, something I hope
to be rid of soon!

Naastika: I love the concept! Very cute and not only do the colors contrast well but so does the facial expressions of the "mom" and baby.
Leprechaun: I just recently began using photoshop instead of pencil and paper myself and I find myself wanting to outline everything. I just took a painting class and it helped me!

I will likely work into this more, but I'm trying to be good and get some sleep.

That is pure concepting greatness, it looks alien, it has emotion - I love it.
Those are some balls, I don't want to get caught by those aliens. And the light is wicked too.

There are some fantastic examples here, real inspiration.
Plasma,
My eye keeps resting on the creatures left large arm. If I look at it just right, it looks like a seperate alien hugging the larger one and helping hold the baby. Kind of cool.

I'm late as usual and very unpleased :( my original dirty pencil sketch had some charm, it was cute and promising, but Photoshop is a tough opponent for me and I lack experience in various fields... I like the basic shapes, I don't like the colors (though I don't really see them, in the office I have a cheap monitor with TN panel and wrong colors. I'm a programmer, after all) and the bodies has still some 2d look, though it's better than before...

shiNIN - i usually stay away from paintover and so on because I'm no expert, but I liked your sketch and there is 1 easy trick I wanted to show you to help it work nicely.
your colours are very pure and not harmonious. An easy way to help unify an image is to nudge the colours towards a harmony rather than complements, and save complements for points of interest.
My trick for this (ise a lot in early stages, and sometimes at the end) is some nice color gradients on overlay/soft/hard light made, and lower opacity to taste. It will warp the pur colour choices into a more harmonious range by magic (edit: not magic obviously, but you know what i mean) and can help to establish a unified palette. Obviously if you have this in mind at the start and really consider the perceived colour of a surface under a certain coloured light the fudging becomes unnecessary or at least much more of a tweak than a brute force thing. ;-) But I love fudge.
so I hope you dont object but i did this with a green/blue radial gradient, and fiddle with levels, then added a few bubbles for fun - i think it hangs together better manly because of the way all the pure colours are now nudged to be slightly more in common with each other. There is still more that you coould tweak though, so maybe have a try yourself and see what effects you can get.
anyway, I hope you are not offended, I am not often moved to be brave enough to offer my bumbling helps :) ignore me if I seem to be trying to correct you. :D

Apocalypse_Rex: oh, no problem at all, I'm very thankful :) I was totally lost, ended up with very much flash effects in my .psd, knowing very well that the main problem is that I don't really know what I should do with my colors. it's very disturbing, I usually know what direction should I take some more step and now I barely could sleep, I wished for a better result, my pencil sketch deserved more.
I will look at the modified picture when I will go home to my much better monitor :) the bubbles are good idea (though they're too much for me :)), I knew I should add something like that, but I had no time and mood for such small details, and I like the gradient of the water better as in my original pic.
Edit, @home: in the beginning I used that greenish shade too, but I lost it somewhere in the process. and I do realized that my colors are competing and it disturbed me. I'm mad at myself, my taste isn't sooo bad =)
...but now the new dsg has priority :)

some late thoughts too
Naastica: good holding pose ;)
Heckedy Peg: no, _my_ sketch was dirty, not yours. I like it, the lines, the colors, the idea.
outline? my little drawing life was about lines only. so now I'm struggling. I like sketches and outlined drawings too, they have a place and charm, and for a complete beginner they're easier,I think, but well, outline can come into the way...
William b. Hand: great mood and texture :)
Psychostrat: it has some "strength" (I dunno the appropriate word, but it has definitely something, it made an impact for me), the colors are good. and it's creepy...!
ExiledRed: good concept :)
Tommoy: I love the baby! its parent seems to be very flat beside it. well, it may be intentional. interesting and funny stuff.
Farvus: very nice lines and the picture is charming and relaxing for me. I think in a more finished state it would be more recognizable which are the parts of the baby, now I don't really know.
burrito: I've seen some of your works on older dsgs too and I always digged your style ;) good pose, look and wonderful warm colors, I love it very much.
I wished for some clean and nice warm scene, it's a matter of taste, and it was very pleasing to see yours, it was a treat for me ;).
Apocalypse_Rex: I like the colors and the light in the background :)
and I loved your comments about the balls ;)
dan liimatta: great... if it would be a chow instead a dsg, you would get my vote for sure!
(OK, for a chow you probably would do it differently, but that's not the point ;))

Merlin: I really like the quick sketch you did. There's just something about it that really attracts me to it.
Benkashmer: I really like what you've done too. I always have seen a lot of potential in the sculpt and paint over thing. What programs do you use? I am assuming Zbrush.
