It's been a while since I've posted new work, but the NDA's have been an age in clearing. Lots of stuff some of it over a year old. Sorry about the huge download

I did 14 pages for Thomas Jane and Images Bad Planet comic. It's finally published. Here are the pages. I always seem to have quite a hectic pace on comics so most of these pages were 2 days max per page start to finish. There are areas I would of liked longer on but thought I would include them all, warts intact.

And Kudos for actually making a gnome look serious.

Thanks so much for posting. I love your style. The voidwalker with gnome painting is probably the best rendition of voidwalker I've ever seen, and I believe that making a gnome look so badass takes some super serious skills.

Love the comics and everything else too. Beautiful work!

Holy hell!!! Those are amazing man. I love your comic panels. Especially the first set... quite a bold choice to go with a protagonist who doesn't even look remotely human. And I love the tilted exposition panels you've got going in page 8...

Is aemos a 40K adept by any chance?

Thanks for the comments.

Eartstormjim - Glad you liked it.

Elwell - Means a lot, thanks very much.

MarkWinters - Thanks, I really enjoy producing comic art. It's a hell of a lot of work for smaller financial reward but there's something about telling a sequential story that really stimulates me. Plus you have to illustrate everything in the script so it hones your skills too.

Phil Moss - Thanks Phil.

scott*altmann - Hi Scott. Working with artists like yourself, and many others from this site on Magic and WOW means you can never rest on your laurels. Truly powerful, game raising competition.

Mandryk - Thanks Darryl, Really pleased you like the work. Been following and admiring your work for quite a while now.

Orunitier - Cheers. Horror's the one thing I don't get enough opportunity to draw. I'd be exploring it all the time given a choice.

Carnifex - The concept spooks me a little. That painting is based on the erlking by John Connolly. A really spooky short story based on the child killing, dark fairy lord. Has real babies for dolls and a crown made of childrens fingers. The painting is in Sunny California now.

Ralph horsley - Thanks Ralph. Love the goblin goodness you did for Shadowmoor.

thedeath - Thank you.

strych9ine - Eye's can get seriously obese on this site. Mine dribble syrup now.

Andrew Marks - Thanks Andrew. With the gnome I just tried to ignore the fact he's a little squirt and concentrated on his intent.

aka_sova - Really appreciated.

LORD M - OK, but my Grans going to have to go back to chewing her own food.

PatriciaS - Thanks Patricia. A pot of freshly ground coffee is surely one of the great joys in life. Certainly one of mine.

frixon - Thanks Frixon. I think 2 days is slow compared to some guys. I know quite a few comic artists and the quantity and quality of work they can churn out is phenomenal.

krossj - Thanks.

Robert.B - Cheers Robert.

Nightblue - Glad you liked the voidwalker. This image went through a couple of incarnations. hopefully I'll be able to post the earlier image which had a completely different composition. The WOW process is quite in depth and can result in quite a few tweaks to sketches and finals.

Lord Dubu - I can't take credit for the protagonist as I came on board after 5 issues for a flashback sequence. The concept is all Tom Janes. Totally insane story. There were points reading the script which had my head and stomach doing back flips. Was a lot of fun working with Tom and the RAW crew on this.

DSillustration - Thanks so much Dan.

OmertA- Thank you OmertA.

Alti - Thanks Alti.

Nubb - Mass production...If only.;) I'm always telling myself to work harder. Glad you liked them. More updates to come.

I didn't want to bump this thread unnecessarily, without anything new to show, so apologies for the lateness in replying to all your posts.

Thanks Pavel: I love the chance to do horror work and try to inject it into a lot of my images whether they need it or not.:)

Banhatin.: I use a pretty basic set of tools within painter although paper textures and chalk pattern come in very useful. It's not so much the tool rather how you think about using it.

phoenicorn. Thanks man. More work after these few words.

Tigermilk: Please feel free to post me links to some of those swedish artists. One of my favourite bands of last year, Hyacinth House are swedish. That country contains some awesome talent.

Hunterkiller. Thanks a lot. i only see the problems now.

ArtZealot: Cheers! appreciated

zweiDee: Thanks a lot.

Rod28Pereira: I'm not that crazy but I've had my moments.

sabin boykinov: This whole site blows my socks off every day.

Texahol: Thanks. Sticky eyes aren't good.

Beelow: Thanks for saving

stoph: That means a lot thanks. Yeah it's a bit crazy lately , how little time I get to do comic strips. It's a bit of a killer.

Gulzaar: thanks so much.

N8 Van Dyke: You are doing some awesome work your self Nate. Thanks for the compliment from your own dirty gritty ape mind. More on the way.

Jake Kobrin: hey Jake. I'm really looking forward to seeing the leaps and bounds you're going to make on this board. I wish i had this sort of resource when I was your age. I feel old....:)

WODZGN: Thanks!!

qabas12: I wish i had a 1000% more time to do some of this stuff.

Rune Rask: I like to keep the trad stuff going. Especially with the Magic cards. The approval process seems well geared towards trad work.

OK here's some new work. First up a new batch of Magic cards. All are acrylic on watercolour paper.

Welcome. I think your work is work taking the time to study and taking apart. I need to move more textural and painterly stuff in my work. You pull it off well. Also you have good understanding(better than I do) of composition and color and handle the paints well. Thanks for sharing more of your work. So do you have a book with a collection of your works? Let me know when you do if you have one already. I hate to be such a fan boy and a bother. Later.

A small update of some card art for magic and WoW, but some fun pieces. Just an update on some of your kind comments.

Jorge Gecov - Thank you.

Thijz - Cheers, inspiration is the main reason i come here myself. This place is sticky with eye candy.

mr. m - I really enjoy doing meaty stuff. A reason why i enjoyed my present magic cards later on in this post.

Beelow - I feel i have so much to learn myself so I'm humbled you want to dissect my work. I'm trying to find time to work on some painting for myself. Not always easy but vital I think in keeping ideas flowing. I've got sketchbooks full of stuff I plan to trawl through for inspiration. I'd like to get a collection together and I may have a publisher that i can work with. I'm currently working with Soleil in France to produce some graphic novels so I'll keep the news updated as and when.

Twisted Synapses - I LOVE Horror, but tend to prefer subtler and creepier stuff than giant gorey meat monsters, but you can't pass up chances to indulge.:)

endorphine - Thanks man!

staaron _ Glad you like.

/ev _ The feeling is mutual

Matt Dixon - Hey matt thanks. I always dig your stuff as you know. Keep up the great work and never feel guilty about indulgence.:) You can never have enough buxom goblin slaughtering women.

Tangrim - It's almost too fun. See below for some of the most self indulgent fun stuff i've done in a while.

MoonVisionStudio - Thanks and I suppose they're not too warty. Speedy and tight deadlines can be a great motivator but I like a bit of time to just sit back and check on what I'm doing.

goran - respect to you too. really appreciated.

Pavel Sokov - Thanks Pavel. I hope to be able to show some of my slower pages soon. All under NDA at the moment.

nicolas - Hey! thanks Nicolas. it means a lot to get respect from someone whose style and work ethic I truly admire.

psychoboy - Thank you

Conejo Blanco - Cheers! Trying to push yourself is sooo important and I must do more of it to myself.

shadoman - Cheers

Just some card art updates.

This first batch is a bunch of cards for the new Shards set from magic. I was asked to work on the zombie death shards. WooHoo. It's really rare to get a chance to do this type of nasty stuff for magic, and I had a blast.:) Particularly enjoyed designing the dog handed zombie, and the cannibal shadow creature. All painted in Acrylic.

497746

497748

497738

A couple of World of Warcraft cards. All digital

A chance in this card to do something creepy with lots of texture.

497744

A intentional nod to Hokusai in this. A little blasphemous I suppose.

Phenomeal work, really.
The comic was extremely cool and it felt intimate - I think you really captured a mood there; there was something really bleak about the world and characters, I wanted to be there and see more.

The last 3 works were also really strong - very creepy with a tangible gloom and oppression.

Thanks for posting these!

EDIT: I didnt see the update work. The last 3 I was refering to was your initial post. The update work is really inspired as well, you really have an original style; instantly recognizable.

A new update:

First off some replies.

Android: Thank's so much you're a true inspiration and your creative courage blows me away. I really must find some time and get some easel work done. I can feel urges eating me from the inside out. Some ideas are ready.

DeKal: Thanks man. I find it hard to give suggestions as I'm too aware of how far I must go. it's the reason I come to CA.

OTTA: Thanks. I'll try to keep it up.

D@niel: thanks d@niel.

Spinex: A lot of these I consider tame compared to my personal ideas. Nothing scares or delights me as much as human-beings.....Oh! and wasps, but without the delight part.

sony: Mad!! Sometimes.

Siamese Goldfish: Kittens are cool...I'm a cat man myself.

KenJ: You usually get 1-2 months per card. That's sketch to finish. usually it's a juggling act with other projects. I tend to spend as long on the initial sketches as the finished painting. More time spent on the early stages makes the final image a far smoother process. Usually I'll spend 2-3 days painting a magic card.

Cryptcrawler: Thanks man! you are really rocking the place with your work. I must comment on your latest post. It's a beaut!! I'd love to see your take on a sequential story.

RicardoGuimaraes: Thanks Man.

Ralph horsley: Thanks Ralph. Your samples for Grixis were inspiring.

nardsdesign: thanks!

Nubb: Excused! Thanks Nubb:

A huge dump after a long absence. been busy with work and personal stuff. All rewarding, but the personal addition of my baby son Seth has been the most incredible and chaotic thing that's ever happened to me. After 3 months I'm just about getting back to some kind of normality.

My apologies for the late replies.

DSillustration: Thank you Dan very much appreciated. One more comic below.

Jason Snair: thank you. Doing a lot of sequential work at the moment.

HunterKiller_: I don't think the Chinese editions are being censored at the moment. I could be wrong though.

Jacob Kobryn: I

Sean McClain Thanks Sean. The book is out with a bunch of killer work from other guys in the Wizards of the coast stable.

jack Mcdonagh: Glad you enjoyed tham. I'm having a great time painting a graphic novel for soleil. All the black and white images are digital.

AndyParkArt Means a lot coming from such a phenomenal artist. Thank you.

Uli: I want to do a lot more painting, especially after seeing an exhibition featuring Kent Williams and Jason Shawn Alexander. Blown away by what they are doing.

OK new work. A whole bunch of magic art produced over the last year. All in acrylic with small digital tweaks in places.

Dave, your work is intense. I love all the Magic and WoW card art, the art on those cards is what inspired me to become an artist. :asskisser:

Great work Kendall. I really enjoy your busdriver comic. One crit though. The transperant speach bubbles gets kind of confusing to look at. I'd recommend rather giving them a slight value instead of pure white if you dont want them white.

Im such a big fan of your work for Magic, and I'm so drawn to your acrylics. You are in fact the sole reason I started posting on this site (back in 2008 I shot u an e-mail with a link to my work, u gave me some great advice and recommended this site) so thank you very much for that as well. Fantastic work.

I love the fact that you are ambitious with your palette, its nice to see fantasy work that is bright and organic looking. The combination of a tight composition mixed with looser brush strokes and your use of texture really makes your pieces look dynamic. I think that your work is the antithesis to alot of fantasy art these days which is dark, monochromatic and overly gradiated tonally. Your work really inspires me and the direction that I want to take my own illustrations...cheers!

Dave these are so great!

Youve got a real unique, visceral edge in your work that is instantly recognizable and that you seem to have tapped into more and more.
I love to see folks unafraid to be themselves in thier work instead of molding their talents to whats popular.

I really dig your voice man and really love to see you not only improving but becoming more "you" if that makes sense.

Keep rokken like dokken my man.

Man, these paintings are awesome. Your work on shadowmoor was great and I gotta say the style you worked into each of those pieces really defined how I still picture that world. Man, I love your paintings, a lot.

You need help..lol. The creature concepts here are sick and the images are genuinely disturbing, which is rare. I think you have a good feel for mood, which is evident throughout your pieces.
