Very nice sketchbook. I like how you handle brushes and color. Be careful with proportions and perspective though. Keep up the good work.

Great work. I'm a big environment person too, so I'll keep an eye out for future updates... and I'll hopefully learn some things too :D

Mihail - Yes proportion and perspective is tricky ^^. Thx for the crit.
xbrianx - Hey thanks man!
More stuff. Made these on the weekend.

The hospital image, I think it would make a bigger imapct if it was darker, giving those lights on the ceiling some focus. At the moment it seems overbright, as if light is coming from everywhere and it makes the image difficult to step into.
Looking good, lets see some more.

Smoke - Thx for the critique Smoke. So I made it darker(or atleast i tried ^^) and I thinks it looks better now. Thx alot for the help!
Some more stuff. I didn't really know what to do with the second picture... I tried to save it. I dont know if I manage but yeah it some how turned in to an unreal tournament map :^^;:
Third pic: WIP dont really know where to go with this one... Ohh and I used google sketchbook to build the room and then painted over it

Hi there,
I would work a bit more on facial expressions. What helped me was drawing eyes, nose and mouth ONLY in as many variations as possible.
That's how the old folks at disney and marvel did..
Good work,

Your environments are looking awesome! I love the way you painted the bricks in post #7. Pay close attention to perspective though, it is a little off in some of your works.

Xezor1324 - Thx! Well about the bricks... I dont think I painted those, probably just a photo with overlay mode on >.< im lazy ^^

hey really sweet stuff here mate, i like your enviros a lot, your style is pretty wicked as well, you have a good use of color but i think if you pushed your values a bit more to help bring out more contrast your images would truly benefit from it, also some more anatomy studies wouldn't hurt either, other than that keep up the good work. and keep posting.

Drawn a lot today. First are the "studies"... ugh dont really like the word studie... just because Im really not doing a studie... I draw what I see and hope that my brain snaps up some information >.<, maybe you should think about every stroke you put down... Im just to lazy to do it...
Anyway emm all are photos from the net and the last one is a Sparth speedy.

And these are from my head. The perspective/ proportions in the "city trainstation" are kind of off... I blame my sketch :nohope:

Hey man, nice stuff! And holy crap you've been drawing alot. Good job.
I really like some of your earlier work when you were using textures over top of the painting... Seems to really tighten up your scene. Keep it up!
Jockemon
September 11th, 2008, 06:35 PM
fury03 - Thanks! I did some experiments with textures today and I remember now why I "stopped" using that method. I think its kinda easy to rely to much on the textures to make your painting. I caught myself just blocking in color and saying to myself that it all looks ugly now, but as soon as I get those textures in there everythings gonna look great. That never happened... so everything were still ugly but with textures on it >.<. Now a days I try to paint in my textures as I go(using custom brushes or just a normal hard round). But Im gonna experiment some more... textures can really enhance your painting, if you have a good base painting. Thats what I think anyway.
Been drawing a lot as usual, but Im just gonna post one pic. This one is kind of special to me... emm I like it and I dont... the thing was that I went in with one goal and that was to try and push it as far as I could... so not really caring about anyhing then to "finalize it" If that makes any sense.
So perspective and all that *ish are kind of a mess... So whats the secret, well basically its a paint over of lots of photos put together.
I learnt this from Adam Paquette at gorillaartfare.com. He has a cool tutorial on there on "how to do it" so check it out (http://gorillaartfare.com/author/adam-paquette/)

Your enviros are great I really like the green river and the arabic one. I really don't like the last one though, the clouds look very plastic though the water is really nice actually... ah maybe I do like it.
Cheers

February 22nd, 2009, 03:42 PM
Janos - Yeah I tired to make the clouds kind of cartoony... but I probably should have drawn a more realistic sky scene hehe.
Im breaking my own rule... buuuuut ehh... tired of env. at the moment :frustrated:

Hello there, it's nice to see someone doing environments!
You have unique ideas, like this one (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=593969&stc=1&d=1234727812) which reminds me of Daniel Dociu's work (http://www.conceptart.org/?artist=Tinfoil). Now, here's some harsh critique.
That particular piece suffers from use of very primary colours of a single tone (like the sky, the most basic tone of blue with no variation across a large space, looks very flat/boring/unconvincing etc), not to mention 100% opacity.
This one (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=490681&stc=1&d=1223912745) makes no sense to me. Why would anyone want a nuclear reactor in the middle of a city CBD, WTF? Industrial stuff is almost always placed in industrial areas. Cities are divided into the Central Business District, Residental Area (some apartments in the CBD though), industrial area, ocean docks with international trading etc/lovely waterfront area, which the CBD is usually built around, and hinterland. The hinterland is that space outside of the city with all the farms etc where the dairy and meat comes from, and where motorways run through. In no circumstance would you place a nuclear reactor in the CBD, 9 yards or so away from offices and apartments where people live, unless your mayor is evil and wants to take over the world with all the chocolate and candies.
Your stuff looks good. I recommend playing with opacity and soft edges. Remember things in the distance will look less solid/more transparent. Work more from observation, traveling and studying from life. :)

Fuck man your environments are sick!
Great characters too, really great stuff alround.
I'd agree with Max about some of your edges tho, abit more contrast would problely help.
And wtf? No stars? have *5.

Max Challie - Thanks for the critique I appreciate it! Yeah the Nuke thing is suppose to be like some type of neon tree hehe. I think the story behind that was "the last tree the planet" or something like that. But yeah I kinda got to tired and gave up on it...
JailHouseRock2 - Hahaha Thanks dude!
I have been drawing a lot, but I dont wanna post old s***... So here is one I finished to day YaY! Tried a new "style" but I dont know if I like it... looks to cartoony. I guess that is because I left in the lineart. :xpld:

Hey - I really like your environment work and especially the more recent ones where you use more desaturated colours and less defined lines in the background. It really gives the image a sense of depth to the picture that is less obvious in some of your others.
love the style and I'll definitely subscribe!

looking really good man, love how clean and nice your making these. Nice colours aswell.
Overall id say experiment with detail a little more, some of them seem a bit barren in terms of the nitty-gritty of the scene. Also play with perspective more, your using the 1-point perspective quite a lot, even just 2-point can add so much more to a picture.
Keep up the good work!
