Well I must say that so far I'm glad I was pointed to this place, looking forward to shareing images, ideas, and techniques.
I must say that I am super new to this entire forum concept so if anyone can enlighten me about what I should or shouldn't be doing (yeah I read the rules already); mainly as to what is an acceptable thread and when is it ok to start a new one. Simple things like that.
So far this all feels like the good ol days of BBS when you logged on and chated through posts. Well anyway either email me or just blast it here, thank you again and I look forward to a great time here.

I this forum like just starting? Or is it naturaly slow...
Well anyway I don't see the need to start a new thread (could be wrong but oh well) here are some other 3D concepts I have lingering around.

Pretty cool shtuff. Every forum has a personality. Some fast, some slow, some polite, and some outrageous. This forum tends towards 2d concept art, so us 3d types are largely left to our own devices here, unless we decide to do a 2d concept :] Its a good community though, because its like a calm respite after the storm of a place like Sijun.
BTW, if you would ever like a critique on any of these, lemme know.

Suljan, welcome to the forum. the 3d doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic, but I bounce around in here to see what people can translate to 3d here. so far, it's been fairly interesting, but not very full of traffic. Your works are great, 2d and 3d alike. I like how you combine the organic and inorganic in your 3d works. very well done.
here is some of my 3d stuff. i haven't been able to really work on my own stuff for a couple of years, and the things i do at work isn't very exciting, so i don't really post anything related to it.

this was a ship design I worked on (group project, my concept, plus i modelled most of the body) back in maya's startin days (i think this was maya1 to maya2).
this is a head I worked (most recent) max 4.2...

Anthony thank you for the update, I hope that with some luck and perseverance we can change the trafic in this forum.
I know that the 3D takes a bit more time then just drawing but often it seems to be more rewarding (well atleast to me). But like most I must admit I reach a fill of working on something then I have to run back to the paper for a little while and come back.
As far as critique's go... open the flood gates, thats why I post. I like it when people are like "Oooh, Ahhhh" but honestly that doesn't get me doing better work, also by the same token people who just say things like "You suck" doesn't help either. But an thought out critique is always a welcome one do to the fact thaht it points out weaknesses that I may not be aware of and hence I will strive to make it stronger. Being on a quest to ever keep on improving, critiques are the only way.
AfroLaxMan that spaceship design is pretty cool, looks very Matrix like. Yeah Maya 1.0 was a bear of a program, I was on a team doing a big project and we lost 3 weeks worth of work because the referencing in May 1.0 decided to stop working and none of the files would even open up. Needless to say a 3 week setback was not very welcome.
Well I look forward to all of us here banding together to make a difference. After all this is "Concept" and no one needs to be scared of posting (only mild ripping will insue =P).

Thank you for the post Rapunzel and I will keep what you said in mind. That was one of my earlier works that went along with an animation that actualy made it to the introductory tapes for my school and local comercials in AZ.
My first critique... went rather smoothly at that, and your english is not so bad :D

Hey Suljan,
I admire the way you mix electronic and organic! If I were you, I'd try out different ways of lighting the models. When I light a 3d model I like to imagine that I'm painting with the lights, placing highlights and fills where you want them - where it shows off the fantastic work you've done in modelling. With some of your images, a background may help to show the silouette of your model.
Keep up the great work - like I said, I love your ideas and the way you integrate the hi-tech with the natural/organic!

Thank you Silver. I must admit that modeling is my main forte. But your advice is noted and hopefully it will start showing on some of the new images I'm working on. I tend to spend most of my time on modeling and shader-networks and 2D design.

Hey I like the 'salamander' char.(not sure what else to call it) in that last batch of images.
On with the crit... the crotch area kind of bothers me, its not really natural looking. Think about what the bone and muscle structure would be doing beneath the skin. Like, would the pelvis actually go down that far or is it an extension of the spine into a small tail? the side view looks fine to me.. but the front view seems kind of akward.. If it is the continuation of the spine into a would be tail that you are trying to portray it should be slightly more tapered in the front view. but alas i haven't seen the concept art for this guy.. and things like this alot of times are strictly ones personal tastes.;)
His head seems really devoid of the detail that the rest of the body has. But, a texture could quickly fix that. Get him textured. It deserves it.

Grooveholmes I dig your words, and I beg of you to let full bore on the C&C. The only way I get better is by fixing the mistakes that I can't see.
As for the second part, ask and yee shall receive. The 'salamander' creature is a model that is in it's embryonic state and there for not fully developed. As you sill see in the design, the buttox area is somewhat bulbous like that. Originaly I gave him a tail but the director had me ditch it do to time constraints. The head was designed with simplicity and more of a carapace surface. The way I envisioned it was like a beetle shell, and the creature has no eye's but it has four nostrils which it can open and close independently to help it navigate or find food. I can delve deeper but the director still talks to me ocasionaly and though the attempt to make this project fell short (mainly political reasons) he still assures me that one day he wants to remake it (I'll belive it when I see it).
Here are the sketches for the baby alien of the story.
http://home.quixnet.net/~bagyint/projects/mother/images/2d/m10.jpg
Now we did have it textured but it mainly was inside of an eggsack so the texture did not include a graet plethora of the detail. (sorry for any and all spelling mistakes)

So do you like Maya or Max better????
I just got Max 5 cause that is what they use at school...
Suljan
January 5th, 2003, 03:03 AM
Right off hand I would have to say that I am more a Maya man. But that is not to say that I don’t appreciate Max, they both have prose and cons but the strongest package is Maya.
The best description I can give you is that Max tends to be the best package for videogames while Maya is more for 3D movies/FX. And yes Maya is out to try and take the game market as well.
I used to be a diehard Max man back in Max 1.0 – 2.0 region but then I started delving into Power Animator, SoftImage, Alias Studio, and finally Maya. Can’t say that I have gone back since. I still play with Max to stay on top as much as I can, every once in a while I’ll make a plate in Max then comp it in post, but that tends to be the extent of it.
