if you send it to the uk with money for the postage for me to send it back, then by all meens, i'll join :D

...

actually, how much would it cost to send a sketch book from the uk back to san fransisco? i might if its not too exspensive...

Not a bad idea at all. Shipping shouldn't be too much if overseas shipments are sent at 'media' rate, which usually takes longer. If everyone in the States agreed to send to each other Priority, the process would be expediated.

i have a coupla ideas of what to do with it at the end, one being that we could print up copies and sell them (either at a self publishing place or just using kinko's) another being we could just auciton the book off and give the proceeds to this site. mostly it will all just be for fun- the other sketchbooks like this ive seen have had some artist incorperation or working with the theme or content of the page next to it, giving some interesting results. we could also scan all the finished work up and put it on a site.
if we want to do this, it would have to be on the basis that whoever has the sketchbook pays for it to be sent to the next person- so it would be best to set up a list so people could see who was nearest to them (to speed things up and to save on postage) and to see who has already had it.
ill coordinate it all if theres enough people interested...and how do i get ahold of the admins to let them know? im new here...

I'd probably be in. Most likely though you'd want me to share in the book so yours all look so good in contrast right?! Anyways, it could be a prize for one of the thunderdomes, not sure which place prize, but that's an idea right?

Something that could stop me from joining would be shipping fees. I am saving to go to art college, so more than maybe 30$ Canadian and I might have to think long and hard about it, then again me and my bro could both do sketches and cut the cost in half :D We'll see.

I'd be happy to draw in it. try to plan out some route so europeans don't end up mailing it to asians, and asians don't have to mail it to americans. (geographically speaking of course!)

art knows no boundaries.

Damn good idea...ive been wanting to take part in such a collab for some time. Im in...

Funny story...a graphic design friend of mine took part in one of those and got mugged at gunpoint with the book in his tote bag. It was almost complete. I think everyone was pretty pissed about that one <=P

I send material to friends in Asia from America a lot and it takes no time, stuff sent to me takes a little longer, depending on the postal service. When I went to Indonesia, the post office was a very strange situation, the mail sometimes got to its destination, sometimes not, it was a very risky ordeal sometimes. However, I don't see any real problems that way, as long as people are fairly close together. I don't mind shipping to either Europe or Asia from the US.

whoa...excellent idea - id love to draw some stuff in there
id also love a copy of the sketchbook, like someone said

how can this get started? i guess people would have to post their exact location so we can send it to the nearest person

queens, new york here!

someone introduce this idea to more REALLY good sketchers!! what a great thing to eventually have - whoever buys the book has to make a sick cover!!

does anybody have a site where i/ we can post up names and location of the people who want to participate? im no good with html....
and about shipping, it really isnt that much. you wouldnt even need a box, really, just one of those padded envelope thingies, and a sketchbook really only weighs about a..pound? maybe 2? so that wouldnt be that bad.
since theres some people interested now, ill go get the sketchbook...im gonna go for a nive big spiral bound hard-cover one with thick paper (at least 90lb press) any real preferences?

or "The List" could just be people emailing me their adresses.

I suggest opening a thread in the Lounge area to hit the largest number of people. I would also limit each person to one page and just in case it was opened, I would suggest no nudity, just to give less excuses for a postal inspector somewhere to hinder the book's travel.

I'd love to take a part in this... great idea man. We could open up a thread for everyone to post their page as they make it so we can all see the progress of the book.

The only thing I can see negative about the book is the strong possibility that it could get lost, stolen, or funked up in general.

I get to go after Marko Djurdjevic ! ... I just wanna see his purty lil sketches :)

strych9ine - I agree there is a chance the book could be damaged or lost, that's why we should each scan our own page before mailing it to the next person... and if someone doesn't have a scanner they can just put a post-it on there page asking the next person to scan there's as well.

cool. ill post something up in the lounge area, and make up a set of guidlines for the book. as for nudity, well say tastefull (artistic) nudity is okay, but no sex stuff; one page per artist (though i think it would be okay to incorperate the page next to it); and NO messing with others art once its done unless they say so, or you are collaberating. those, i think, are about all the guidlines needed.

Scanning is an awesome idea. I would also add: spray your page with a fixative! With so many people potentially peeking at your sketch, there is no reason not to protect your work. I would love to participate and I can scan for anyone without a scanner and have no problem with shipping costs overseas from the States to either Europe or Asia.
