This is high-poly and finished for now, but still a WIP, so please C+C welcome! There are more images of it on my site.... Someday I'll come back to it and tweak, but now its time for the Thunderdome!!!

looks real nice, could we have a close up of the face, and perhaps a faceted render and wireframe?

the concept is kind of boring and the face looks a little old and week.
i think you could push your idea development farther on this one.

your right Andrew. I was aware of this, but your comments have made me want to do something about it.
I modeled the face off of the famous actor from the 20's and 30's, Erich von Stroheim (Le Grande Illusion, Sunset Blvd.)
Not many people are liking the old face. Its not a fit for the type of character. Eventually, when I get back to this WIP, I'll give him something more heroic.

good to see you doing both concepting and 3d. very good.
Im agreeing also with andrew here.
who is this guy? is he a generic grunt? if not...if hes a character type...what kind of guy is he...i mean you can judge people by their appearance...what story would I make up about this guy if i was trying to figure out who he was by what he looked like?
character specifics...this guy is clean...looks like hes not fought a battle yet..or in years...he is a strange mixture of distortion andd reality(the eye is overly large and odd in its socket vs a much more subtle and real lookin nose....or the anatomy in the waist and hips vs that of the arms)
I dunno...looks like you could have put more thought into who this character was...inside his shell....and structured the shell more purposefully in order to communicate him to us.
beware cliche. twists...opposite attributes etc..can help to make him a little more interesting.
keep at it man...yer doing a lot of the right things. you want to be a concept artist...then do some more concepting OF the character....Justin Sweet told me once "a concept artist is a storyteller...without words...you need to make someone make up a story about this guy"...and thus...you need to make up a story about this guy.
kevin llewellyn did a good job of that in a strange monkey monster concept....he made up this story about these monkeys things that prey on these little strange creatures...when they eat them the creatures scream and scream...thus the monkeys ears have grown very small...it also secretes a poison that rots flesh...the monkeys have these thrashed faces and hands and teeth rooted deep in gums and jaw...he had a whole story around the guys...you could picture the environment when he told it....and even in his concepts he drew them as they would be...the creatures small...so the monkeys were naturally hunched over...everything about them reflected what that creature was.
same goes for your guy...it can be on a subtle sense if you choose...or more exaggerated...all it takes is thoughts and a little brainstorming.
go man go
