Good Start!

But what are you using for the ball joints? Looks like Sculpey. If it is, I don't thing they will last. They might eventually wear down or break.

Sorry for the double post... something screwy happened.

Fun sculpt, I have to agree with red though - if you are going to make the joints with sculpey you're in for a hard time, don't see that working.

I was worried about sculpey breaking too, but i think i've handled that, what i've done is used thin gauge armature wire in the shaft of the joint and then when i am sculpting the joining appendage i cover the ball with Tin Foil that way there isn't sculpey on sclulpey action *snicker*, not too mention this is a trial run if it doesn't work...oh well back to the drawing board...

Basically i found an action figure i already had and mad a cast mold of one of its joints and then went on a molding spree i think i made like twenty of them... this is a great deal of help in mass production: http://www.dickblick.com/zz339/00/

the burn marks are from a Heat Gun i used at first, you can see it takes a bit to get used to it....

Looks like a good start, ZJ - but I agree with the others about those joints.
If you plan on press-fitting the parts that correspond to those ball joints, one or the other is bound to break. Once baked, Sculpy really has no elasticity and actually becomes quite brittle in time.

For action figs, I've seen lot's of guys simply taking an existing action figure and either Dremel'ing all the detail down to a rough skeletal base on which to sculpt, or simply chopping out and using the joints - material-wise, it seems that most use either wax or a self-hardening material like a epoxy putty.

But again, nice start - good luck, and I look forward to updates.

Well i tried continuing with the sculpey joints for the arms and legs and it was Less then desirable.... so thanks to Red again, i've ordered dome premade figure joints from http://www.hlj.com/product/YLS09303 i'll post pics as soon as they arrive.

cheers!
