this is a character that I've been working on for about two years now. I'm actually going to try to build her in Maya 5 and see if I can animate her without making it look horrible. C&C welcome

well hmm, theres not much to say about this peice. what is the basis of the character concept? the only thing that bothers me overall is the chest of the character. i'm assuming it's female. but the chest is more man-ish than having a female feel to it. they are almost pecks. other than that, it seems like a good manga-ish character.

pretty unoriginal.....
kinda boring. this type of stuff is done all the time. to get someones attention with this genre, you have to be amazing. but its not bad. for some reason it feels like the arms are too short. i dunno.

Hmmm, looks like I need to do some redesigning with this kind of response.

your rendering is pretty good, as the others say, this has been done a billion times, no offense of course, i really dont have any crits, try goin away from the blues, and render with pen/ink, or computer, or just a good ol' pencil

I think a less stiff, more dynamic pose would help the elf theme out a lot. The picture isn't bad though, just needs to be refined a bit :D

If you were to redesign this picture...ask yourself these questions.
Does she believe in any gods. What is her preferred fighting style and how does this affect her clothes (fabric-wise, etc.)
What does she carry for everyday life. Can she do magic, how does she do magic. Where does she live? What kind of terrain is it, and what is the weather like and how does this affect her clothes.

:D Hope this helps! It's hard to make an "elf" unique.

This picture is actually the front shot of a model turn around so the pose is fairly stiff. And yeah, the half -elf thing has been done a hundred thousand times before by a hundred thousand different artists, but this is the whole challenge. The thing I did wrong here was not explain much about her, and her pose also says nothing about her character. And she actually does follow a god, and the emblem of her god is burnt into the back of her vest. Anyhow, thanks for the constructive crits at least, I appreciate people taking the time to give me their take on my work.

This isn't terrible by any means, I think perhaps its just missing some life.

As far as critiques, I like her head to toe proportions, but agree her arms seem a little too short.

Also something just looks weird with her crotch area, I'm having trouble putting my finger on it, but perhaps a little less definition, and more hint of fabric of some sort?

I think that you are off to a good start actually... it would be awesome to see you take the challenge and run with it. Breath some life in to her :)

This sketch is really well made. And it looks nice, but yes, it is very stiff. I understand how difficult it is, and it takes a lot of time and practice to get it right. Her right arm seems to be the most stiff appendage, however, and perhaps giving it a little more angles would help?

Also, I think that for a curvy sword like that one, the sheath/scabbard should be more wavy looking? I think it would be difficult to house such a weapon in a straight sheath, or at least the sheath matched to the sword wielded.
