Yet another wildly random attempt at finding the humor in clanky old robots, clockworks and fish.

whoops! Too much traffic just killed my site!!! I'll have it back up in the coming days. In the mean time check out all the other wonderful artwork on the boards. Thanks once again to all who commented and apologies to those who're getting my dead link.

That is great. :) i especially like the retro-streamlined robot. very groovy, and i love the abstraction of ideas.

i think i'm in love...

i saw this and thought, hmmm... this looks familiar then when i saw the name i knew. oh man i love your work. there is something about an illustrator who can inject personality into their work. hopefully soon i'll be able to reach that place. keep on posting and inspiring. thanks

awesome! he's a skate-key wind-up robot! one opinion crit: i wish it were less monochromatic, but I'm reaching here. Since I'm not familiar with your work, I believe I'll have to find more as soon as I get home from work. :)

ooh, since i just got the joke, maybe the key's hook needs something to pop it out more?

Fantastic work as usual.

Is there a conscious decision to always use robots and fish? What is behind your choice of content?

Thanks all for the overwhelming response! All comments were much appreciated. I did do some slight modifications based on the comments about the right hand and it does look better. Played around with a couple of bits and "mistakes" that fell through the cracks and I think I can now safely call this one done.

As far as inspiration, meaning and books...

I must, and will readily admit that though I do love painting these robots the true seed of inspiration comes from my good friend (And fellow conceptart.org patron.) Jon Foster (http://www.jonfoster.com) who's paintings filled me with such joy I had no corner but to follow suit.

Meaning has always been and will always be, in my mind, up to the viewer to bring to the table. I have my own interpretation of the piece but I don't think it any more valid then all of yours. My goal is just to deliver the seed of a story to the you all in the hope that you all will make it grow into something different, strange and beautiful. Why fish, robots, and numbers? Simply because I find these elements to hold an emotional and intellectual intrigue that suits my desire to create and makes great fodder for viewer interest.

And about the book... Yes, I'm planning on a book. However publication of said book is dependant on a number of nebulous factors so I can't say exactly when... But rest assured there is definitely one and hopefully more in the works.

Brian,

Once again your work makes me smile and feeds my imagination. I love the fish. Great design and the composition feels dead on... again. I am convinced that your brain creates color different than most. I love it. Were you exposed to gamma rays as a child? or dropped in some vat of gelatinous chemical goo that enhances creative ablilities? Curious. Hopefully you have managed to obtain your unnatural gifts (through genetic mutation?) without the usual side effect desire to blow up a city or something, you know how it goes...

I am in the middle to a deadline, see what you have done! Great work, can't wait to see what you do next and mark me down for one of your books!

Love the angler fish! :D And the whole picture too... the monochrome gives it a really aged feeling. Very nice!

LOL, this is too great. I was just getting ready to visit your site when I thought I would stop by here first. Great work Brian, your rich textures make my day. I also love the little details like the dents and scratches in the shoulder and chest. Jon's right though, those fish are as creepy as the Priest of Gix!
