Summary: Creates concept art for visual effects in feature films to include: characters, vehicles, environments, matte paintings, shot elements, and/or storyboards.
Reports To: Creative Director

Location: San Francisco, CA
Primary Responsibilities:
Will create dynamic artwork that is key to various stories and scripts.
Education, Experience and Skills:
Must be able to assemble research and reference material that will be influential to clients and design team.
Experience or knowledge of cinematic techniques, language and shot composition desired.
Clear understanding of anatomy and motion of organic and mechanical forms.
Artist must be able to work within a production environment. Closely with Art Directors and VFX Supervisors.
In addition to concept art you must be able to also support different productions with various design needs. Understanding and producing photorealism is a must.
Proficiency in design software required. (Photoshop, Painter, Sketch-up, etc.)
Must have 4-6 years experience in Entertainment industry
Demo reel and/or portfolio required.
Submission release form needs to be completed before portfolio/reel can be reviewed.
This position requires you to submit a reel of your work by mail. In addition, you must submit your information online.
Guidelines for submitting a reel:
A completed submission release form is required for all portfolio submissions. We will not review your work until we receive your release form. Please download this Submission Release Form (http://www.ilm.com/pdf/submission_release.pdf), complete and sign, then mail to the address below.
When submitting your portfolio/reel, please do not include originals as we are unable to return the materials you submit. Reels should be on DVD, NTSC format - no Beta, VHS, 3/4" or CDs, please. Please include a shot breakdown explaining what you did on your reel and what software (if applicable) was used to achieve the effects. The length of your reel should be limited to 3 minutes and consist of work that best exemplifies your abilities, starting with your most recent work. Music is not necessary.
