View Full Version : DSG 1350: Sci-Fi Props: DESIGN 5 INFANTRY WEAPONS/GUNS... ALSO, SHOW USER SILHOUETTE

[ So... ]
[ Show the silhouette of a person holding, carrying, or operating the weapon so that it's usage is clear. ]
[ You might show the weapon up-close and in detail - by itself - and then show the silhouetted use of same (in thumbnail fashion) to the right of it. ]
[ Or, if you're able to show sufficient detail in the weapon, simply do so in combination with the user silhouette. ]
[ It might make sense (speed-wise) to copy & paste the same silhouetted user for more than one weapon, if the same operating/carrying stance applies. ]

I tried to design it as fast as possible:
Weapon silhouettes - 1h
Rendering - 1h
User silhouettes - 0,5h

I don't think I want to say how long I spent on this stuff. This would be roughly my first full digital color/paint in photoshop and I wanted to play around with it.
1. I had an idea for a weapon that had all sorts of turning gears, but I can't draw ellipses like I wanted on the tablet so I switched the design up.
2. I have always wanted to draw someone just sitting in a chair shooting by using video game controls.
3. Stealth ninja guy with a propain tank on his back go around flame throwing people.
4. I was inspired by those retractable garden hose things and I pictured a bullet chain that winds around it then unspools as you shoot.
5. Having spent hours on the other four I really didn't want to do a 5th one right now so I went with obvious cliche humor.

Doing a second more realistic set of these is defiantly on my list of things to do within the next year once I improve.

I'll have to render the guns later. Class in the morn. This was pretty fun, first time I did anything like this. : P

Got bored x(, will prolly finish em later- add silhouettes etc..
@Farvus ::
Nice renders solid design.
@Mazeroni ::
Funky idears. Photoshop got a tool for making ellipses etc., should be on your toolbar (not the selection tool). Allow you to change line (stroke) and fill.
@Phantom0083 ::
Looking good so far ^^.
:Edit - detailed the weapons a lil, rearranged and added generic descriptions xD.

Farvus, you are referring to modern/futuristic infantry.
Infantry has been applied to footsoldiers with small arms since before gunpowder.

Topic is "infantry weapons/guns", which doesnt point towards any specific era.
Infantry date back ages.

ExiledRed, and scumworks - Actually, Farvus is sortuv right. The topic header included the instruction of "Sci-Fi props", and that was the intent. But, since you're talking bio-engineering, I reckon those're just fine. More "Sci-Fantasy", perhaps, but thas okay. ;)

Well I guess they're infantry from a post apocalyptic future society that has reverted to feudalism then.
and look - dark matter grenades and bolt pistols! :)
Edit - final update - disruptor knuckles.

Well, I botched this one. I only had time to read the header at work, then put this together on break. I read "Design 5" as a company name or concept, not an instruction. Either way, here's what I put together:

Steampunk!! No silhouettes, spent much too long on the weapons to put any more work into it.

(Yes, that's a crotch-mounted cannon!)

Here I come again DSG:P.
It took me about 4hours or more from the very beginning to the end. I actually borrowed the approach Farvus used, that's why my piece looks similar to that. Just for avoiding unnecessary misunderstanding, I've asked for his approval.
Comments and suggestions are more than welcome:D.
