Well I don't have a background story on it so your more then welcome to make your own. Basicaly I made the sketches for a 3D character that I have yet to finish. Probably not the place to do this but what the hey.

ooh... nice 3d model. What method of modelling did you use for the head?nurbs, sub divs, polys?
kinda reminds me of a "nice" version of the baby-head monster toy thing in Toy Story!

I started with patch modeling in NURBS then converted to polies where I unified all the patches. Made a copy of the poly object and converted it to Sub-D's then cross-linked the poly and Sub-D so that the poly is the building cage for it.
This way I can place my Poly on one layer and sub-D on the other so I can play peekaboo if need be and also I can assign a seperate shader to the polies and use the transperancy to mask out the faces but still be able to see the vertexes.
Hope that makes sense, oh this is done in Maya by the way. And your not the first person to make the Toy Story connection, but I assure you its a work in progress and that it's purely coincidental. Not to say that I haven't seen the movie and it surfaced somehwere in my subconcious. Hence why we have things that inspire.
Here is the first image I'm loosely basying the model on. The top image is an after thought for a design change mainly for animation purposes.

Wow, love the 3d model
- yeah i agree it does remind me of the Toy Story freak toy, but i probably wouldnt have made that connection if it hadnt been mentioned- :)

thanks for the technique description! I understood most of it.... I've been using Maya for a year now and Im quite happy just to use polygons. I find that patch modelling with nurbs requires loads of planning - and with my limited patience span i don't think its a good way for me to go!!
Another connection (maybe???!) that i just thought of was that the head-spider thingy reminds me of the head-spider thingy in John Carpenter's The Thing. anyone else think so??
or maybe i've been watching too many films lately!
later!

Well I did start textureing that model but got caught up on other projects. I'll have to dig up the file and post what I have so far just for you GrooveHolmes.
But on the other front I want to get away from the 3D in this ection look for my posts in the 3D Concepts area if you want to see 3D works.
