Been contemplating opening a sketchbook for a while, and finally figured - why the hell not. I'm all hope having this corner will give me the motivation boost I so often need.

You know your stuff, alright. My only nitpicks are some small perspective and anatomy issues in the earlier pics, but those look like they're older works anyway. Simply beautiful, especially the cartoon works. Love the animals.

Discoskull - thank you so much =)
Kaffinated - thanks man. I'm looking to get out of the playful phase a bit, but it's always a fun place to fall back to.
Quinn Simoes - thank you. I used a method I learned from Tergete's video tutorials, only digitalized: I started with a more-or-less random scribble with a slanted brush and then went crazy with a very small hard brush to get a pen look. When you hardly think about what you're going to do next you get some awesome, fresh results.
Markito - thanks. I'm glad your favorites are some of the more recent work. Means I'm going somewhere =)
blacky - thanks! Unfortunately I don't study at an art school...last time I studied art was in high school and it was mostly talk and bullshit, so I gave it up.
Johan 79 - many thanks. Colors is something I'm trying to get better at, so I'm glad you like.
Coinpurse :) We ARE quite the team, aren't we? Thank you plenty.
cleos - thaks!
sabin - Thank you. Throw a monkey into space and you're bound to get something good out of it.. =)
zeo-x - Thanks a lot. I hope to be able to post more stuff, as time permits.

A few more sketches a-la-Targete and a piece I've been working on for a while, trying my hand at some more realistic stuff, color and composition. Deep thanks to my darling Pat (Chuck,Mate) for pointing out a mistake I've been making over and over again - the character's head shouldn't turn towards outside the canvas, but towards the larger space of the drawing. I still feel stupid for never having figured it out myself.

The Japanese Demon God in post #63 is hands down my fav - I kept looking at it for a while and I really like it when you get away from the cartoony stuff. That being said I really like this one (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/chatenoire/robo_small.jpg) despite being cartoony - esp how you handled the background. Great stuff!

And these are a couple of comic strips for a weekly activity in an Israeli comics forum. Each week a subject is given and participants need to interpret it whichever way they want as long as it's through sequential art. The joke in the second one works better in Hebrew, I promise.

Fresh from an all-nighter (not the best idea when you have to go to work the next day) - a female adventurer for the unfortunately cancelled CHOW#118. Stunning sketchbook you got here. When I first looked at it, your style reminded me to a certain extent of Disney, but as I looked further, your style grew to so much more. Your designs and characters are so much more accomplished, yet retain the beautiful and vivid colour work with simplicity of lines. Simply wonderful to look at. I would really like to see how your comic progresses (if you can post it), I would be willing to buy it on the merits of this sketchbook alone.

I can't believe I haven't visited this thread before. Just spent 20 mins looking at all the images. Very solid, fun work. Your draw such great body language and expressions - really adds alot of life to the pieces.

The only crit I have is that in some of your more 'realistic' pieces, you sometimes slip back into the large head / small body cartoon style. But that crit is more a nitpick.

Hey Chate, I noticed that your blog had what looks like a tutorial of some kind on it, but being that I am cursed to knowing only parts of english (I'm starting to get the hang of it) and not any other languages other than neanderthalic grunts and gestures, I was wondering if there was a chance that you'll ever translate that for the benefit of some of us yanks.

Love the art, by the way. You've developed into your own style that just rocks!

Ifman1 - The tutorial that was on my blog (in Hebrew, btw) was just a kind of review of Photoshop's brushes, not much more. It's pretty close to this page (http://www.uwec.edu/Help/PhotoshopCS3/brush-opts.htm), except with shinier examples :)

I think you could improve her head. The neck seems too long, and there is issue with the face features... It looks like she wear a mask... Also it's hard to see that hair is her hair, we can't see the beginning / connection with her skull, and the curves should be more fluid.
And the clothes draped is a little bit too limp. :)

beautiful painting, moods, dynamic lines and a happy vibe allover your work.

Maybe it needs a bit more of identity as in, a particular uniqueness of style.
You have got a great technique and it seems you could now focus on the expression too.

Love it all.

Man Made God - thank you very much. In this piece in particular I followed Matt Dixon's tutorial (http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/tutorialsdigipaint.asp) from 3DTotal's website. In short, I set the black-and-white sketch to Multiply, lowered the opacity a little and just blocked in color in a layer underneath. when I had my basic darks I flattened it and started rendering, going from dark to light, from big strokes to small details. Check out the tutorial, it's excellent reading.
Ricardo Robles - thanks man, that's really great to hear. I do hope to work in the talkies business one day =)

Awesome sketchbook! There's a lot of good stuff here.

My only critique is I'd like to see you push your drawings a bit further. Right now, they're looking a bit like Disney stock faces. This is by no means a bad thing as they have a lot of appeal. I don't know if the company you work at encourages pushing designs and exaggerating to the limit, but the nurse one looks like a step in the right direction. I really like the graphic approach.

Keep up the good work!

Farvus - thank you for the words and for the stars!
grenappels - these are my favorites as well. People often don't notice the art and work behind many things...but I guess if it's commercial work and the artist gets paid, constructive feedback from customers is less important =) thank you!

BubbaGump - Funny you should mention - the company I work for is not very open to new styles and ideas, to say the least. The nurse got through just barely. But since I'm only doing these illustrations on rare occasions, the same old style hasn't started to bore me yet.
