20mins wacom. I'll do another one. Something more "expressive" of the theme, even tho I had it clearly in my mind with this one too, only it became a little bit more functional on the idea level than how much it shows in the illustration.

I kept thinking about a story where the younger brother's older sister is a changeling swapped at birth by elves...as they grow older he slowly realizes they are not of the same kind, but loves her all the same.

After a short while of inactivity, I get back into the game with this piece. I will most likely re-color it, as I'm thoroughly unhappy with it.

Ryoken, it's beautiful, the lines are gorgeous, (except perhaps on the left where I cant tell whether the wing is in front of the rocks or the other way round) and the colours are just right for the piece.

People do name their kids Ling in China or something, right? I thought I was being clever  . I decided to try and exercise my digital painting skills for the first time and in doing so I didn't take into account proper shadowing or making the lighting more 'arcade like'. I spent around an hour on it for what you see, I really just wanted to get my idea out there and rushed into coloring it.
ExiledRed: Yours reminds me of a character from the game Gazillionaire.

Here's my go at it, Fun Topic!
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f12/PovverAnimal/Sketches001-2.jpg
Tommoy: Nice action in your scene.
Hamsta: Cool design, talk about a constantly changing amoeba!
Mazeroni: That made me laugh... Thank you :geekg:
Amianna: Cute animation, nice fluidity.
Telamon: Intresting setup, I think i'd be shocked if my baby had a tale too.
Ryoken: Very cool creature, I like that it seems to be morphing into whatever it touches.
Brett_Schmidt: Cute take on the topic.
Erik Wilson: I like the expressive pose of the victim, the sense of agony of the process really shows through.
ExiledRed: cool looking morhphing process.

Erik Wilson – Nice composition and decent anatomy. You are so dynamic you almost have to go even further with the anatomy. Push the joints and angles even more to get every body part to speak for your piece.
Jutami – Cool. Try using some textured brushes. They make your line go from classic photoshop to dynamic and fresh real fast.
Ability – You have lots of white space, get into the figures, which are very fun and show them off.
Ryokin – Fantastic. Lights sources are really nice. Line and flow is fresh. I want to see more depth within the figure. It’s a lot of pretty lines that I can’t really read. Get that more defined and you have a really interesting character. Those are really pretty lines.
Telamon- You have an understanding of color theory and your composition is alright. Now get some anatomy in there and away you go.
Hamsta – Try using hard brushes at differing opacities. The air brush just looks blurry. And using some real sharp lines to define your larger shapes is good artistic mojo.

to ExiledRed: Your changeling freaks me out. There's something Duckmanish about it yet, more disturbing than the art of Duckman....
It's a compliment.
Phantom0083: I think of Otto Dix when I look at your picture, but instead he's trying to rip his face off, or crush the pimple that is his face. It's really disturbing.

Gazillionaire? Duckman?
I was actually thinking of the escher picture where the facial structure is unravelled like an orange peel.
Thanks all the same though :)

my second pic created in Photoshop...
I was inpired and I'm planning to make a much more finished and better version of it, maybe without the little girl, she makes my work harder :)
my Changeling is the sluagh-like creature raised by humans (a tough fate...). the little girl is her "sister" and despite their very different look and nature, they cherish each other. okay, it's not visible enough on my pic...
a sluagh is a specie of the "Changeling" RPG, depicted in its book. they have a pale white skin (though there are drawings where it's not true), but I preferred a darker and a bit greenish shade.
I'm pleased with the face of the sluagh, though I think it should express a bit more emotion. the child's head and feet are horrible and I should make some background (I suck at it).

Ow. Be careful with that. I don't know if you noticed it but referring to the RPG game greatly limited your imagination. You came up with some "safe design" that somebody else tried before. It's better to train your creativity by constantly putting it into test.
Cheers.

my imagination and creativity is very little in the moment (it was about zero, then I met these great DSG topics and now I actually HAVE ideas sometimes. little, simple ones, but my head isn't empty when I grab my pencil) and I'm a beginner, I can't listen to everything yet... my picture has many major flaws and those are more annoying for me.
but I do wish to improve my "imagination skills" (sorry, my English isn't good enough) and I love the interesting never seen creatures in these topics. at the moment I'm pleased if I am able to slightly modify a referenced character. but I will be better :)

Grown changeling child turning back to what she really is. I might take this a bit further because I rather like the start.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/AurenLumen/changeling.jpg
Erik Wilson - Very cool and kind of creepy. It really looks like it's morphing. Yours is my favorite.
Hamsta - Love yours too. It's a little fuzzy and hard to pinpoint exactly what it is but that kind of works for the idea.

Amazing. I did the sketch and part of the coloring before realizing I was suppose to draw a troll, not a orc >.<. Im either braindead or very very tired... :ilaekae: :oneye:

I thought I'd contribute to this; I was up last night just doodling with my tablet and made this little critter. He was just digging into his left pocket when, oh, he took out some change, a baby Earth!

ConCrete Actually, my brush is set to 100% hardness. The blurriness is pure skill! (or maybe it's because the size jitter is set to pen pressure? :P )
PowerAnimal This brings up associations of 70's psychedelic art... R. Crumb maybe?
I don't really see it as following the topic, change isn't extreme enough.
Other than that, it's rendered pretty well, I like his right hand in particular. Left seems smaller, and the angle they come up at seems unnatural.
Auren Changing back? you sure? she looks like she's sprouting out to me. Into what? The thickness of the stuff at the button suggests bark to me, while the dramatic lighting (cheers on that) and the shape suggest fire.
The face is rather adult, and could use softening and re proportioning to make her more child like.
Auren
April 14th, 2008, 09:40 PM
Hamsta - Yup pretty sure. I meant for her to look adult, like she had just come of age, and she's suppsed to be turning back into a fairy. I'm not exactly sure how to make the transformation more obvious. It's something that stumped me a little in the first place.
