Had a sketch for this hanging around for a while so I thought I'd finish it off over the weekend, photoshop and painter 341573

Nice stuff. I like the color and the composition on both, but on the first, the balance of the umbrella feels off. All handle, no coverage.

Good job on them both, but the second one's face seems alittle flat ... this could be attributed to the face being framede or highlighting/sat. its lovely work so keep it up

NathanLong - I see what you mean, though originally it was meant to be more in the vein of an Edwardian parasol, built more for fashion than for practical rain defense. In the original sketch I was going for handle bindings similar to those on a samurai sword which might have helped add interest to the handle and balance it out.
Incinerated - hmmm looking at the face again I think you might be right I'll have a look at that and see if I can get some roundness back in there.

The top one is very good. The textures and style work very well together. I also dig the fish background. The bottom one looks a bit rushed. It just doesn't have the same appeal and craftsmanship. Good luck to you.
