Check last page for the better work

Hey fellas ,
small intro:
am 17, like to draw but never went to artschool ( maybe next year) and live in belgium and would like a job like concept artist, illustrator.
Am not good at drawing, now i've started doing some anatomy exercises because i want to able to draw whatever i want without having to use reference's.
And just a thing i know about myself , i have problems with perspective/proportions when drawing.

so here's some of my work, c&c is welcome

The still lifes are really great, and it's nice to know that you're studying some bone structures.

Hope to see more updates!

Aloha,

yeah, just had to check out your sketchbook mate ^^ me being curious :)

Anyway, some c&c on your drawings, first of all drop the anime-stuff mate, as it is waay to simplified and you'll learn practically nothing from it except how to draw stupid cartoons whit some limbs waay bigger then usual.

Instead look at some of these here if ya want to be truely inspired:

http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=83394
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=108591

These guys are in my honest opinion the best of the best. Pure art. If ya want to studie anatomy -nice skull drawings btw ^^ - try drawing from life first, take some art classes, evening school or something like that in your spare time and draw like hell. Also, check out these:

http://www.fineart.sk/
http://the-structure-of-man.blogspot.com/

If you know them already, fine then, consider me not having said anything, if not, why are you still reading? ^^ Anyway, I see -for example- some stuff in the batman - like drawing that could be done waay better, I'm not a pro or anything, I've got a lot of mistakes on a lot of drawings myself too, but I've been looking very well at the best and I try to learn from what they share with the world :p I suggest you do the same ^^ You do know that half of your drawing skills is based on observation and the other half on actual drawing, don't you? It' also a handy excuse for watching movies and reading comics ^^

Anyway, enjoy your drawing and keep posting

Cya

Definitely a great start. My suggestion to you would be to have reference around when you are drawing. Photo or real life if possible. That's if your aren't already:)

And do simple head and anatomy studies where you just are putting down the basic parts down. Shapes and contours, no shading or details, if you start putting details/shading in too early you will end up finishing a piece before you see the bad anatomy.

Keep it up!

@Dreln: Thx alot , i already used photo reference with the last 2 portraits not much likeness though :p And i will definetly try with only drawing the shapes/contours.

At the moment am working on a other eye studie ( it's fun :p ) that i will post as soon it's done, but in a few days i have exams so no time to draw.

Here's a concept/model i've done for the workshop contest.(weaponized),(i did change a few things on the actual model because it just wasn't looking the way i hoped in 3d) i hope the render ain't to dark.

Great start to your SB Sky_Eagle. You've got some nice studies, especially
your colour studies. You'll be thankful you did them for sure. I'd like to see some
anatomy studies here, when your get your Glen Villppu book of course. Keep it up.

Thank you remmy! I've already recieved my book but the first chapters are about gesture and simple forms and while it looks simple am having some diffuculties with them so first gonna practise more on it. I'll probally begin my anatomy studies in a week or two.

Here's an other portrait i've done. (it's supposed to be hilary duff be its hard to find the ressemblance.) i know i've placed the eyes to high and that the cheekbone is to thick.
I've allso made a charcoal version of it , i like to draw with it but i find it harder to control. Still gotta practise alot with it.

Hey buddy! Enjoyable stuff in here, especially the fact that you keep churning out those digis. Colors are looking great, better than the pencils, I'd advise that you focus a bit more on structure and rendering in pencil, and keep tackling that anatomy even if it's frustrating. That makes more sense right now than just drawing from photographs, because you need to understand the underlying structure of what you're drawing.
The link to the tutorial you asked about would be http://www.furiae.com/index.php?view=gallery as Google would have told you :P
Maybe also check out Andrew Loomis books? Should help a lot. http://acid.noobgrinder.com/Loomis/

Keep it up!

This after noon i started a drawing of king theoden and it was so crap that i ripped it in two pieces and i was so mad and disappointed at myself.
After being so mad at myself i played the bad company demo and that made me even madder to i started killing my entire team :wtf: then i listend some music and then i started to draw another portrait ( can you guess who it is?). And i find it's my best drawing yet, i allso payed attention to rendering the hair. Srry for the crappy scan though.

If you made sure that eyes were always on the centre line of the head, your no ref heads would be tons better because when you do them from ref they are right. You got some nice tones on the Da Vinci study. Keep practicing.

yeah, the new picture is really much better :) the upper half of the head is too big though and a face just a bit too wide (and the neck is a bit flat with this shading), but the face itself is lovely, well done! :) the hair is nice too :)

this picture (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=360404&stc=1&d=1209748714) has an interesting expression too, it has some life in it and this is very important. it seems you lost your interest below the neck, it would be better without it, some rushed lines harm the picture ;)

"one need to rip pictures sometimes" - said an art teacher to me once. it's natural to be mad and frustrated, especially in the beginning (though I dunno what comes later, I'm a beginner myself). what's important don't give up and continue to draw. you'll be better ;)

@ black spot and King Kobra: thx alot !
@ shiNIN: Thank you, i did kinda lost interest the lower half of the drawing and on my reference picture she was wearing a black sweater and i wanted the attention on the face not the shirt :p

So here's my drawing of today, an orc from lord of the rings , i really tried to work on my shadings and add more darker tones ( on my reference pic the entire right side was allso in shadow) again srry for the crappy scan :s

Steven1991
July 11th, 2008, 02:24 PM
an other study of da vinci , again i tried to use darker tones. (i might have rushed the rendering to much since it isn't very accurate to the original piece but i had alot of fun :p )

It's been a while since i've posted something but it's so hot here in belgium , it makes me so lazy :p

Here's the painting i did today. It's from a guy that lives over me and he plays in a band. i allso decided to make a sort of stylish gangster look. I'm very happy with how it came out, but now am gonna let my hands rest because they hurt from drawing all day :mod:

Wauw, je gekleurde tekeningen zijn echt goed. ;)
Alleen meer tekeningen en anatomie beter leren. ;)

shiNIN
August 1st, 2008, 02:59 PM
the bunny is nice, but the last guy versions... wow, impressive. there something with the hat and the cigar's position, I think, but these are minor things, the main thing looks good. a believable face with character. I looked at your older posts again, there's a huge gap between them and the new ones...

Steven1991
August 2nd, 2008, 02:34 PM
Vimerge : Dank je , ja ik weet , ik zou echt anatomie bestudere maar ik blijf het maar uitstellen :bashful:

shiNIN: Thx alot! i think that i see what you mean , the hat should be probally higher and have more height and the sigar should maybe be a little bit smaller but fatter. :)

So today i tried to paint a granny , am amazed how difficult it is to draw old people and create believable wrinkles , been working on it all day and not to happy with how it came out.Anyways , gonna probally paint a hot chick tomorrow :rocker:

Hi and making nice progress - not done yet, this is coming out so nicely don't quit yet... look under her neck her right breast needs fixing to look good with the other one, the outline of her body has ridges. I think you need to fix her hair it looks patchy and the outline of her face needs to be cleaned up there are smudges - the good thing is she is totally starting to rock and the skin tones are wonderful!! Pleeease keep going -- look at your ref photo a lot you have a very good eye, this will help you.
