BETTER STUFF LATER ON > > >
(at least I think so?)
EDIT:
Currently 18, probably going to AAU this coming fall, and needing to get tons of times better at art (so if you have any suggestions or critiques, please share! :) ).
Constructive critiques (and paint overs) are most welcome =)
Please take care of me~ :teeth:

I LOVE the second one! it reminds me of a Buddhist statue: totally immersed in nature. The perspective on the shattered pieces drawing is really interesting. That must have been difficult to draw.
Awesome first post. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm about to make the switch from Lurker to Art-Sharer.
Eerin
April 5th, 2008, 04:49 PM
Davezilla - thanks! =) The second one is indeed a Buddhist statue. And the shattered pieces you were referring to are actual mirror shards glued to the artwork.

Forgot to add that I shortened the hands for the piece with the tattered flag but I still think there are a lot of proportional mistakes. Not to mention the fact that I'm not particularly fond of the way she is sitting.
And here's a sketch I did a while back:
Leo Ki
April 5th, 2008, 11:04 PM
Yes, she must have very flexible knees to sit that way :)
Apart from that the attitude looks good to me.
Maybe you could work the lighting to make it more dramatic.
I also like the last sketch. Do you plan to color it?
And welcome to CA! :)
Eerin
April 17th, 2008, 01:46 AM
Leo Ki - Thanks! =) and yes, at some point in the past I did plan to color it, but I never got around to it. Maybe I will get around to it sometime in the future though... =)
Here are two stuff I've been working on.
First one is a work in progress. The second one is inspired by Andrew Jones.

Some stuff I've done in the past two days...
Two character designs (one of which is still in progress) and some figure drawing.
2-min gesture drawing and a 5-min

5-min, two 10-min, and a 15 min:

A WIP and a finished doodle (the latter inspired by Andrew Jones).
Not really sure where I'm heading with the character design.....particularly got no clue what her hands will be doing =)

Hey Eerin - some really cool stuff you've done here - I love the flow and character they have :)
I hope you finish that one of the lady with the bow and only one hand so far... her arms do look as if they may be connecting to quite wide shoulders for her body though - otherwise a lovely concept - she'd work perfect in a sunny woodland glade or entering a cave in the side of a mountain valley...
keep up the great work and studies - look forward to seeing more :)

July 18th, 2008, 11:45 PM
oooh i think the girl with the swirly bra and the bird the best!
Eerin
July 19th, 2008, 03:34 PM
The7Artist7 Thanks! =) I actually do not know whether I will ever finish that image. I have a tendency to completely abandon something once I grow tired of it and move on =(
Oranje Joe Thank you~ but she's actually in plate mail and not a bra xD (but given the linework, I can see why it looks so :))
Two more little things I did a while back... (yes its the infamous overused PS butterfly brush :P )
A reference photo was used for the tiger's head (photo made into a tiger head painter brush).

Welcome Eerin!
Thatīs a great start of a sketchbook. Well, there is no much to criticize for real.
You are very good at characters, especially their faces look nice.
Also nice to see you try different techniques and workflows for your paintings.
Mhh... maybe some boys or men next time ^^
Cheers

Hehe no worries, I do the same! I'm liking those last two - the tiger looks like it's on drugs or something! 'whoa - I knew I shouldn't have eaten that hippy' ;)
Keep up the great work!

really like the watercolour look on your character in post 9
Love the pattern and colour of your style makes each piece seem full of life and character!

July 29th, 2008, 12:22 AM
Gail_Blitzy thank you =) I'll try to utilize more of that texturing then =)
The7Artist7 thanks :) and I'll try~
Xaya much appreciated~ here are some of those "some boys or men" xD
Some classical Greek sculptures (great for contrapposto study). The last one is done from a reference pic I found online.

Nice sketchbook, I can see improvement!
I absolutely love the girl with the swords, great lines and gesture and the colours really appeals to me. Would love to see more along those lines, looks very professional. Only thing that's a bit off is her left hand, looks a bit quirky and is too small compared to her right.
Keep posting!

Totally love the last two digitals, the color sheme on the one with the tiger is just amazing. Overally great work. I'd fail to give you a crit on any of those. Actually I'm really pissed off right nwo beacause I'm also 17 and you show me were I could be now if I wasn't so lazy over the last several years :D I'm waay behind.

July 30th, 2008, 06:12 PM
Yes I'm 17 as well, and yes you also show me where I could be if I wasn't so lazy. (not to be picky but look at pictures of real bow's when you draw them, the one ol' one hand is holding couldn't actually be used, the recurve would pop the string. or maybe it doesn't matter, yeah probably not, I'm carving a bow right now, and so that stuck out to me) Either way I really like the digital painting, thats what I need to learn how to do, that last traditional/charcoal one, is very nice also. Keep posting!

Great work so far; I can't imagine the level of work you'll be doing in a few years if this is what you're up to now ;) Your figures and portraiture are wonderful; keep 'em coming :)

Wow, you are certainly improving quickly! The figure from post #9 is beautiful, easily one of my favorites in here. You've got a great handle on anatomy, posing, and rendering; I also really like the experimentation with some of your paintings. Inspiring stuff I must say :) Keep going, I'll definitely be stopping back in!

Hey!
there is some very impressive stuff in this thread, good job! I'm sensing a pretty strong Jason Chan influence, that's awesome!!
I do have a crit though:
Be careful using textures and pattern brushes, they have a tendency to flatten your 3D forms pretty drastically.
When using textures or weird pattern brushes, try warping them to the forms you're applying them. Try either using the warp tool in Photoshop, Liquefy filter, or on your brushes set the roundness jitter to pen tilt (if you have an intuos tablet).

great work Eerin....I mean you are going to art school next....just stay focused and work it out...you've got a great start..are you in some sort of art school now?
I don't know much about the school you are going to (or any for that matter)...hopefully you get some good teachers and meet a couple of cool artists who have similar interests.
I definitely like where you are headed.

Wow, some stunning work here. Your colour choices are striking, and all before your 17! I agree with Algenpfleger, Your already dammn good, but by the time you finish school you will be amazing. You know, assuming you don't get work before you finish school, which at this rate, you probably could.
Can't wait to see more

You got some down right gorgeous stuff going here. I like the colours and the figure studies are a treat. You should do more studies on facial anatomy, not that your'e faces are bad, they are just a bit anonymus.

Hmmm, thing about critiques is I don't think there all that effective unless you have some things you really put lots into and looks polished. I would loooove to see something that's very polished from you hah! If you do I promise to write an essay about it =3 Well no... budda looks finished. Should I do away with that? Again you've got good proportion and a classic style of figure drawing. I just wish people would pay more attention to the breasts when making drawings. If you look at most drawings these days, even the good ones...the breasts vary in quality from lucky shot to an afterthought.
For many reasons they are the most important part of the drawing.Like them anyways :)

staticpen well, I heard it typically costs 10-15ish for around 2 hours. But luckily, I go to one where I only pay $5 for 2 and a half hours. :) There's no mentoring of any kind involved though, you just sit there and draw the model.
kingkostas aww thank you!
kelly x wow, really?! I've been obsessed with Japanese culture and art during my early high school years, but I've never seen what 30's/40's Japanese art looked like. I wish I lived in Japan for a little while like you! :)
Sequential76 thanks!
photosynthesis haha, thank you =)
cout<mecha uh, thanks? :P you lost me a bit there though. IMO, when you have only 10 minutes or so to put down an entire figure, I hardly think that there's enough time to concentrate on anything, much less the breasts. I think the initial read of the figure is more important :) I'll keep it in mind though.
algenpfleger it's sad that there's no figure drawing in your area. =( Your stuff is really fantastic though, and posemaniacs among other stuff is always good. But there's no real good substitute for the real substance. Maybe you can try googling for more info in regards to figure drawing that might be around your area? I tried and I was surprised to find a list with TONS of places.
lilou thank you so much lilou :) and I will
Trashy cheers! and I also need to do a lot more figure drawing to improve. I'm getting rusty having not done it for so long.
5coop haha, no worries! I, too, keep an inspiration folder on my computer! :D I'm honored to have made yours. Good luck with your portfolio!
Carbono thank you! :)
I didn't do any art for about four days, embarrassingly. I got caught up by 6 really good books. So here's some sketchy stuff I did prior. Second one is one of my concepts for the Blood Moon Monk in a preliminary color scheme (which I abandoned). And some stuff I drew from the African Art section of the De Young museum. I went to the Chihuly exhibition that's currently on show in there, and it was simply fantastic. The colors are so vivid and dreamy, I doubt anyone won't get inspired. :)

Even unfinished, the monk is really good.I also love the sketchies, and mostly the one with the skull(the one at the right :D)
Keep up!!!

Eerin, you can draw very well, and have color theory to back it up. I especially like your wow pieces (i play, but am leaving for warhammer).
An example of comparisons comes to mind here. Check out Frank Frazetta, and then look at Boris Vallejo's work, and then tell me which you find more interesting :)

Wow instant subscribe! Very lovely stuff here. :) The Blood Moon Monk (I assume that's the one) could use a little contrast though, especially between the background and character.

Verehin - Thank you!
stacipen -Cheers! =)
Kingcostas - the skull is one of the most awesome things the De Young museum, I think everyone draws it! :P
lawvalamp -Thanks! I like Frank Franzetta, classic stuff.
Carl_Soria - thank you! I still need to vastly expand my library of cultural designs and costumes :)
lilou - I agree with you, its definitely unrefined and needs lots more work.
jubjubjedi - thanks! I'm not attending just yet though :)
xinleh - cheers! and you're right, the blood moon monk could use much more polishing.
I haven't updated this thing in so long. So shameful. Here's some stuff I did. I'll upload more later.

Hey Eerin, I remember you, what happened? You disappeared for a while :) I hope all is good and that you've simply been busy drawing in the meantime! That's the only excuse I'll accept, anyway ;)
Nice update. The painting of red riding hood is my favourite, I like the soft colouring technique you used. Something about the colour palette reminds me of loish's style (http://loish.net/), which is definitely a good thing!
So are you studying art somewhere? I saw someone mention AAU up here, is that where you are heading?

Dur I love your female figures. They are so curvy and remind me of Renaissance women. My favorite is the woman in the tree with the feathers. She's so pretty and her form is gorgeous <3

Ah! I'm so happy to see more come in from you! I adore your work, style choices, taste and subject matter. Please come and post more sooner than later, hey?
And what's this about AAU? I and another friend are starting there in the fall. You getting involved? I'll be in Portland for a semester or two doing online stuff at first, but I will eventually move down to San Francisco. If you are headed there, do you have any idea which major direction you're gonna work toward? We may have classes together in the future!
Cheers!

conte - Thanks!
Vloth - Thank you :)
AsaB - I got too lazy to post my stuff :P But I'm back, hopefully for good. And thanks for that link, its a new artist for me! :) Currently I'm at a community college clearing away liberal art requirements. I'm planning to attend AAU once that's done though.
sevarenge - Thanks, I'm planning to go to AAU. I will check your SB =)
eromenos - Luscious curves :P
staticpen - Currently, I'm going for the Illustration major (with the digital track). I do hope we have some classes together! I might be attending next fall! :)
Here are some thumbnails I did for oil paintings (I used Enayla's masked series for reference for the last one):

the way you paint faces is stunniiinngg! and in fact people, in general. and your digital colouring style is lushhh (maybe try some more adventurous facial expressions though, when the need arises. gogogooo!)

Ahhh, Illustration. haha. That's grand. I'm looking at that same direction as well. :)
Great thumbs! I especially like the wild line flourishes you have threaded through the second one. I'm not quite sure how you got everything in that piece to work together so well, but the colors and general ethereal vibe you've got going on there reminds me of the one Japanese artist who used to post on cartoontv. Site's down now, but your watery, misty aesthetic is like a blast from the past, in a very good way! :D

All of your art is so beautiful classical looking, post more sketches! I know you have them... ;)
By the way, I think it's your turn to update sketchbook, so I'm resuscitating you haha. Going back to college makes you pretty busy huh? (I never see you on AIM anymore) Anyway, oh god Team Chow. *weep*

gutss - Thank you and I will try =)
AvisNocturna - Thanks, I noticed that most (if not all) of my art work is peaceful though, haha. I got to break out of that specific mood.
staticpen - Then I hope we have tons of classes together! =D Maybe that site will come back on, and you could show me the awesome art. :)
Vishaka - Done :P and currently being worked on, and thank you!
rosethornCGart - Thanks, I appreciate the support! =)
Kuraudo - Coming from you, that's incredibly encouraging! I'm still gonna work my butt off though because I need to be good enough to get into the industry :P
Hapun- Haha, you resurrected it just as I updated it! xD I'm gonna be on AIM more, we need to work on that ChOW activity!
Some stuff I've done. The figure drawings are like a min or two min long. The painting is a WIP...I accidentally saved the small pixel version over the larger print version, I hate when that happens =(

Mm, such pretty rhythm in your figures. Throwing down bold strokes in all the right places to add some music to the figure.
Bummer about the painting... I've done that as well. It's a real downer. =/ Looks nice so far, though. I like the composition and framing and colors and all of that. :d

really good stuff I like your figures a lot. you can really see the form. I also like your use of color. in your color work I would suggest trying to loosen up, because you have a great eye for line and motion, It is hard to see that in your photoshop paints. Keep it up man it is looking good

lilnebo - Thank you Lilenbo! I saw Icon's stuff before, she does incredibly sweet artwork!
Gloominati - Thanks and here's more...! :)
eromenos - Cause centaurs get done too many times... got to be more original :P
courtyard - You make me feel all fuzzy and warm; thank you!
kevinwueste - Thank you kevin! =) And you have not seen me at any AAU workshops because I'm not a student there (yet). On the matter of your sketchbook, I beg to differ, it's beyond fantastic (and better than mine!).
staticpen - (You bumped my SB while I was updating so now I have to edit this in xD) Thanks about the figures! =) I picked that up from one of the teachers in my CC, its (apparently) an animator's way of portraying rhythm and feel of a figure.
IronFistGoon - Thank you for the insight! I will try loosening up at times :)
Here are some crude quickies.... first one is an idea for a ChOW Team character (Protector), and the other two are from Planet Earth...

staticpen -I completely agree, Planet Earth and similar educational movies are awesome (for art studies) =)
Mischeviouslittleelf - Thank you very much! =) although I don't feel like I'm improving that much xD
Icon - Thank you :) and yes, I'm still planning to attend AAU (unless some financial or other problem prevents me from doing so).
sourgasm - Thanks! I'm actually already near SF xD I live about an hour away :)
Past time to update my sketchbook...
Hogarth head studies and some people from my class/bus (except for the guy, he's from a figure drawing session some time ago).
And my crappy art for the team chow activity.... if you're interested in seeing the process, it's here (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=156133).

Hogarth is nutzzz. Chows turned out well. I like the first better for its temperature contrasts, but I know how rushed the second one was.
