Hey Matt; Looking good! I would suggest maybe changing the smoothing groups on those turbines so they do not look as faceted. On the main hull it could use some additional contrast of light and dark with the color scheme; maybe also a little dirtying up of the texture.. a subtle grain overlay (desaturated), some rust or scratched off paint.

[Edit] Decals too, logo, starfleet sign.. something of that nature.

Keep it up.

hey matt, i agree with brad, its a nice simple model, i like it, the texturing is good to, it just need scratches and dirt, give it some wear-and-tear and ur all set!

Nice job on the window!

I agree with the others on dirt and smoothing.
I like the shape!
How many polies is this one?

Maybe take into account that things start looking green/blue in water really quickly, might help to get that underwater feel.

And maybe some big headlights?

Heres a WIP from another ship that I am doing. It's another ship from the same army. Thats to explain the same color scheme. Its far from done, one of the parts hasnt even been textured yet, but thought I'd post it to get some feedback.

here's a more weathered version, that paint just doesnt hold up good underwater.....:chainsaw:

Digital Gannon: did i have post production with you this past spring with Prof. Fell?

I'm impressed by these but would suggest that you make the combat vessels a bit sleeker, especially if they are supposed to move quickly through water. Being aerodynamic (fluiddynamic?) is very important for fast moving objects in water. These feel like they'd be worker craft, big, heavy, and slow.

Take some ques from ocean life if you can, nature has a funny way of comming up with the most efficient designs for stuff like this.

love that second concept - i think both models are classy and well executed, and look worn without looking dirty and dumped on - these would fit in perfectly in some kind of homeworld-style game i think. Post more!

cagemarrow, you're absolutely right...
but we wanted them to be slowish/bulky ... very "good old boy"/"Space Cadett" kinda stuffs... ya know big with lots of firepower :D

ques from ocean life were taken into account with the hydrodynamics.. Lightassault = Mahi-Mahi ... Heavyassault= crustacea/lobster .. and likewise animate similar.

Great concepts, and nice esecution of the concepts. I think that even after the weathering, these arent really matching up to the high quality look of the concepts. *blunt critique mode on* it looks like, if you took away the greebly bits (little beveled edges and stuff) and then the paint chiips, that this is just a flood fill of orange and blue. There arent any areas, where false volume has been painted in to imply higher geometry than is really there. there is all sorts of great changes in shape and surface angle in the concept, but only the major ones are modeled. That is fine, I would just like to see the minor ones implied in the texture. *blunt critique mode off* these things really have potential to be stellar, and i think they just need some extra "push"

Nice model, better than I could ever do.

Crit on other people's crits: Why must it have dirt and scratches? Can't it be brand new? It all depends on what you're using it for. If it's supposed to be a bit old, dirt and scratches. Brand new, then it looks new. All depends on what you're using it for.

ok, thought this time i would post at an eariler stage, so I could get more chances to utilize the crits I recieve for it. so far, just some vent work, and color fill on areas.

im totally digging the conceptual design. all of the ships look very wonderful.

i dont exactly know what genre game this is supposed to be, or the feel of it. but they definatly look cartoony.

the concept sketch has a very different feel from the actual models. im curious wich way you are heading? do you want htem to look cartoony? or are you trying to be more serious?

another thing, the models dont look big. they look very small. thats all part of the cartoony thing. when i saw the model for the second ship i thought it was a personal craft. then i saw the drawing, and saw the thing is HUGE! its very hard to make things have that sense of scale. be careful of that.

good stuff.

Incredible models, incredible concept art!
My only suggestion is to make the ships a bit more detailed, the textures darker, and the cockpits smaller. That'll increase the sense of scale, and possibly lower the semi-cartoony look of the models.

But they're really cool!
