posted this in the daily sketchbook, but i know some people don't go there all the time, so i figured i'd toss it in here...

anyhow, i did a quick turn of the brush here...bout two hours...and came up with a basic bot+knight combo...and figured it was ready for a post...

Its cool. Well detailed and the idea is nice too.

i guess the only thing that makes him knightly would be the mohawk think, but besides that the style on him is really nicely done

I agree with walking-in-minefield, It is a great design and the lighting is excellent but it doesn't look much like a knight at the moment. Perhaps look up some reference pics of knights helmets and re-design his head or try giving him some sort of futuristic sword. Just to reinforce the knight idea.

Hope this criticism is helpful to you in some way.

oooh, thats beautiful, i love it how it looks extremely detailed but in reality its just blotches of paint. im thinking 'maybe' if you widened his stance, or wider hips, it'll make the knight/robot look a lot stronger. if he were to walk with the hips he has now, it looks as if the legs would rub against one another.
beautiful piece, would love to see some more!

He looks right tired because his shoulders look like they are dropping forwards and @ the same time, hes sort of leaning backwards.

I really like this style though...how did you go about it ?

Nice. How did you create this? Painter? PS? Traditional?
I'd like to see the knight concept pushed further, maybe give him some techno lance and a shield?

thanks everyone for all of the great feedback! here are a few specific answers to your questions and thoughts:

deadpepper and minefield - i hear ya both on the less knight/more mech feel. in fact, the post was initially tossed up only due to the head and shoulder design...so it is in fact mostly a mech...indeed.

jens - your noticing of the character looking tired is in fact a compliment, as that was what i was hoping for (sure it was)...but really, it was indeed intended...i wanted to get away from the "action/macho pose" sensibility of a lot of character designs, and get a look at what the character may look like in "shut-down" mode...with all the day's dirt and stains messin' up the paint.

battlemonkey - hence, i wouldn't really want to widen the stance, as i'm not always down with an action set-up.

rictus - and lastly this lil' diddy was done in p-shop. haven't had the chance nor the funds to get acquainted with painter yet, and p-shop seems to be holding up just fine for now...for now...(i've seen some stuff done in painter that does entice...)

anyhow, thanks again, all! feel free to check out my daily sketchbook and the finished sections for other stuff! i would love to hear more thoughts, as they only help.

peace.
