Hi everybody!
This is a collection of commissioned work I did for SEGA's/ The Creative Assembly's new title Viking: Battle for Asgard. The task was to create images that capture the feel of the game's action, but with a polished look similar to high res 3d renderings. Since there were kinda tight deadlines (for some artworks a few days only), I went on to paint everything except for some background elements where I was able to use in-game models. The three full body artworks are created for life-size standups.
Hope you like!
Cheers

Great stuff Michael! Stunning work really. I wonder if you've used 3d for last 3 pics or it's all painted?

thanks a lot guys!
@ -leo: Yes, it's all done in Painter and Photoshop, only Hel's chain whip and some background enemies are 3d. People often ask me if it's 3d, but it's painted.
Although i personally prefer to do a rougher style with visible dynamic brushstrokes and stuff, I have to stick to the briefing, and this often goes like "high end 3d realism detail massacre, please!" :) But in the end, I'm happy that I don't have to build it in 3d, this would be much more time- and breathconsuming.

That is just AMAZING !!!
Great rendering/painting/coloring/composition ...... ;) I'm amazed to learn that the 3 last pictures all full 2D, that's really incredible. I think my favorite image is the one with the guy and the girl behind him ( i really like her design by the way ). How much time do you usually spend for one image ?

@ hurricane: Great that you stopped by! Yeah I had a lot of fun doing my take on your great concepts, would be very nice to do some collaboration again! And... can't wait to play the game!!! :)

I love the second pic!
Your technique is amazing in all of these. The look can get somewhat stiff with this amount of polish, but I understand the marketing's point of view.
Good work!

yeah. impressive.
The chicks are believable, that is so rare in this kind of pictures that it has to be mentioned. I mean... I could almost feel their breast!! hahaha.
Lot of detail too. Even though you prefer brush strokes and stuff, the compromise you had to make looks good in the end (still, same subject with a rough approach... eh! this is how it works.)
cheers

The last characters are just stunning man and good work all around. The only thing that stands out is on the first piece the title font. Just doesn't seem to do justice to how cold the rest of the piece is, but I'm thinking that was probably a pre-made logo.
Either way inspiring stuff sir.

These are nothing short of amazing. Your compositions and use of lightning is exceptional, very dynamic. I only have a slight critique; The textures, although very well done, are a bit too prominent. I think it would work better if you tone them down very slightly. Other than that, these are most impressive.
5 stars well earned.
