I'm really sorry to make this my first post in this community, but I have a school project due where I have to interview someone working in the art field. [Doesn't have to be art, but it's the career I'm most interested in.] I'd really appreciate any help. It can be done over the computer, and there is only about six or seven questions to answer, so it won't take long at all! Preferably a character designer, or an animator, but at this point I'd be willing to settle for any job that is even remotely art related. Thank you!

Going out of your way to contact them will impress upon a professional more then a drastic plea. I understand your situation though.
I'm not one of those, sadly. This site is run by Massive Black, might be a good place to start. Try a few private messages out to a couple people. Lots of pros post in the Finally Finished section.
If you just cannot find anyone, PM me.

Theres much more then a handfull in this community, and not hard to find. The question is whether or not they'll give you the time. Don't know what kind of information you're looking to get out of this but if I could give any advice here, look for some of the more "fresh into the buis" guys and not veterans of the art world. Breaking into the industry 15 years ago was a hell of a lot different compared to the present day. And if thats not the case, best of luck with your search.

Yes, breaking into the business has changed from:
"I was working a similar job and just stumbled into the field. Yes, 10 years work-experience as a cottonfarmer, that's right."
to
"I worked day and night to become A and settled for a B job. Or was Unhappy with A and went with C, slowly working my way up the mountain, crotch by crotch."

......I started out as a goat farmer on my grandpas farm lol. Then I actually stumbled into the art business with some random magazine wanting to pay me for art, so things havent changed that much haha

No see, different parts of the world live in different timezones.
Belgium for example lives 10 years ago. We are just now getting home with the downies(bless your soul dylan moran) and are getting jiggeh with it. Whatever it may be.
Afghanistan is about 10 years in the future, they've chosen the mad max version, post apocalyptic. All fine.
And Arkansas is about 20-40 years behind if I may believe the words of most American stand-up comedians.

Actually, Arkansas isnt that far behind believe it or not. We got some of the biggest companies that started out here, including Walmart, tyson, and jb hunt (all companies that ruined the world) We also have one of the largest growing communities in the world as well, with us constantly growing non stop every day. But for the most part, Alot of Arkansas is behind in the times. Some people here still want to have a witch hunt for fucks sake. But other parts are growing to massive proportions for such a shitty state. Yeah, this state is just a clusterfuck of various things.

"art industry" sounds far too wide and abstract, especially if you're looking for a character designer or animator. Is it the movie industry? Gaming industry? Fine art industry? TV industry? I would try to find colleges and universities about the field of work you're interests lie in, find some of their alumnies, talk to them, scour the specialised forums, ask questions to the professionals there and repost a clear list of succinct questions here.
P.S.: FYI, I've been a desgin artist and traditional animator in the TV industry, character designer and 3d animator in the gaming industry.

Um, I'm currently doing a freelance job at a design studio, mostly with themepark design stuff. Its my first art job (other than a cd design I did back in HS) so I might be able to give a few good pointers on getting into the industry.
