This is 9x12 in oil. I've revisited this scene for another take.

Good colour, good brush handling, not very interesting subject.

EDIT: now that I've looked at it a bit more, I think that what makes it a bit boring (apart from it being, y'know.. a bush) is the way that despite the contrast betwen the sky and the ground, and between the dark bush and the light one, the whole green area is still pretty samey. It's different lightnesses of the same green, and has little depth. The nearest patches of grass don't seem much nearer than the bushes. Ther is only green adn blue, and not much more, and it doesn't catch my eye.

So what i meant with 'good colour' above, is more like 'accurate colours', I think the colours in themselves are pleasing. But the composition is not as appealing.

2nd EDIT: I looked at your website, and I think Old Florida and Cloudless Sunset are FAR more interesting.

I disagree somewhat with Serpian. At first glance I noticed that your subject had an interesting shape. The composition is on the ordinary side, but is solid considering what your intention may well be. Seeing how this piece is titled "isolation" I think you did a fine job conveying that feeling in the piece. All in all, I think it's solid piece.

There's too much green in my opinion. If the greens came from yellow on blue I think it would be better and add more interest, for instance if there were a yellow blade of grass with blue shadows....

I like this...the brush strokes are nice...if you had more areas with that thick paint that you use in the foreground would help to make the foreground more interesting and break up the monotony of all that green.

My 2 cents.

Keep in mind monitor settings may drastically alter your opinion of this and all artwork as far as colour goes!

I like this piece very much - like all your landscapes you have posted here it is 'about' something, not just a scene of a view of something. It may be subtle but it is always keenly and distinctly felt.

I have only one crit: the sky is seen merely as a 'backdrop' and doesn't 'lock' with the trees as well as the landscape forms. If that sky could have gripped the trees as a 'shape', if it could have been painted as a 'volume' as much as the landscape itself, it would not have been quite so listless.
